What Dubbo Races
Where Dubbo Turf Club – Merrilea Rd, Dubbo NSW 2830
When Monday, January 15, 2023
First Race 1pm AEST

The new week of racing gets under at Dubbo on Monday afternoon, as they get set to host a quickfire seven-race program. The rail sits in the true position the entire circuit, and with warm conditions forecast across the weekend, the track should stay in the Good range prior to the opening event at 1:50pm local time.

Best Bet at Dubbo: Erelle

Erelle returned an impressive winner off a 137-day spell at Scone on December 19 and looks to be a strong chance of making it back-to-back successes for the Brett Cavanough barn. The daughter of Press Statement launched down the centre of the course after being dragged back over the 1300m, eating up the ground to score 1.4 lengths going away from her opposition. She should appreciate getting out in trip to the 1600m second-up, and with barrier two giving Cobi Vitler the chance to land in a stalking position, watch for Erelle to be powering home once again.

Best Bet

Race 4 – #12 Erelle (2)

3yo Filly | T: Brett Cavanough | J: Cobi Vitler (a2kg) (55.5kg)

Next Best at Dubbo: Cheap Gas

We like the way Cheap Gas finished off its race first-up at Orange on December 28, closing off gamely behind Devine Chops, who was already off and gone with the prize. The three-year-old raced greenly on that occasion and found the 1000m too sharp. Derek Piper immediately steps up the gelding in trip to the 1100m, and with barrier one providing Jake Pracey-Holmes the opportunity to hold a more forward position than last time out, we expect a bold showing from Cheap Gas in the opener.

Next Best

Race 1 – #6 Cheap Gas (1)

3yo Gelding | T: Derek Piper | J: Jake Pracey-Holmes (57.5kg)

Best Value at Dubbo: Devine Rendezvous

Devine Rendezvous heads to Dubbo third-up into the campaign and appears set for a peak performance in the final race on the program. She was charging through the wire over 1200m last start at this course and the 1400m should hold no concerns for the four-year-old mare. She drawn awkwardly in barrier 13 for Cobi Vitler, but with the daughter of Devine Prophet likely to get back towards the rear of the field, it should hinder her winning chances. She may need some luck when the whips are cracking, however, at the each-way quote, we’re willing to give Devine Rendezvous a chance to send followers home happy.

Best Value

Race 7 – #13 Devine Rendezvous (13)

4yo Mare | T: Brett Cavanough | J: Cobi Vitler (a2kg) (56.5kg)
