HorseBetting’s Queensland form analyst has taken a look at the bumper 10-race program at Doomben on Saturday and brings you his best bets and quaddie numbers for the meeting. The track is rated a Soft 5, the rail is out 3m for the entire course, and the first race of the afternoon is set to jump at 11:38am AEST.
Doomben Best Bet: Sir Warwick
It is a bit of a wait until race nine, but we are confident it will be worth it as Sir Warwick looks to make it four-straight wins this preparation. The Jake Capewell-trained four-year-old won his maiden at Pakenham back in April before moving north to Toowoomba. The son of Written Tycoon has led all the way in all three runs this time in, and while barrier nine will make it a touch harder than barrier one like last time, he had plenty on them to win by nearly six lengths over the 1200m at this track, so the rise in trip to 1350m and an easy enough lead can see him do it again. The gelding drops 1.5kg to 57kg and keeps the Queensland Jockeys Premiership leader in Jim Byrne on his back, which is a huge plus. The $2.80 on offer looks a steal if he replicates his last few wins.
Next Best at Doomben: At Witz End
There is no hiding the fact that we are big fans of At Witz End after he went on a three-race winning streak over the winter. The Owen Glue-trained six-year-old was pretty stiff to miss out on a spot in The Kosciuszko, but that just means he is primed for this very winnable Open Handicap at Doomben, where he has run well in the past. Having had three starts at the track for two wins and a minor placing, the son of Epaulette finds himself with one hoof on the trophy already. Drawn in barrier eight under Ryan Maloney, he should be able to work across towards the front and land in the one-one, just stalking the lines of Prioritise and Cloak. At Witz End is a tough horse who will keep fighting until the post, so we want to be with him in the fourth.
Doomben Value Bet: Rayjen
There are a couple of fillies we have a bit of time for in this race, especially Fetch, but Rob Heathcote’s Rayjen does look over the odds at $6. The daughter of So You Think led all the way on debut at Doomben over 1110m before chasing hard when second to Hinged, who has since placed in the Group 1 Flight Stakes and started as favourite in the Group 1 Thousand Guineas, which is very good form for this race. Apprentice Leah Kilner will do the steering from barrier two, which should see the three-year-old find the front very comfortably and control the race. The 1200m looks an ideal starting point for Rayjen as she will no doubt get better over further. With only 53.5kg on her back after the claim, Rayjen could be off and gone by the time they straighten.
