Doomben tips & form for Saturday, January 20

DOOMBEN is back this Saturday for a full nine race card and a brilliant day of consistent racing awaits.

There’s no standout event on the card, which is fine by us given the quality will be even across all races.

Let’s get stuck into the Doomben card.

Race 1 – BRC.com.au Handicap (1100m)

Clockwise won well at debut on Boxing Day at the Sunshine Coast and looks well placed to remain undefeated. There’s a lot of talent coming into the opener but we were mightily impressed with what we saw from the Mark Webb-trained filly.

Race 1 tip: Clockwise to win ($5 at Crownbet)

Race 2 – Benchmark 90 (1630m)

[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1179993_02]

Slydini has placed in seven-straight races and looks well placed to deliver its second win this preparation. The horse has been right around the mark, including a second-placed finished at Gold Coast at BM90 level. We’re backing it to go one better here.

Race 2 tip: Slydini to win ($6.50 at Neds)

Race 3 – Benchmark 70 (1630m)

[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1179993_03]

Canongate drops back slightly in grade which will be hugely beneficial after only narrowly going down at BM75 level. The horse has delivered wins at both track and distance we believe can replicate its best form on Saturday.

Race 3 tip: Canongate to win ($6.50 at Ladbrokes)

Race 4 – Open Handicap (1350m)

[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1179993_04]

Trommelschlagen has won back-to-back events, but comes into this race at a big price due to racing exclusively at Ipswich. The horse has not missed a placing in five-straight events and the place price here is too hard to ignore.

Race 4 tip: Trommelschlagen to place ($3.40 at Sportsbet)

Race 5 – Open Handicap (1050m)

Had it not been for an eighth placed finish two starts back Tarzan could be hunting a sixth-straight victory. The horse gets a decent gate and is well in the weights. Tarzan should be right in the mix again here.

Race 5 tip: Tarzan to win ($3.60 at William Hill)

Race 6 – Class 6 Handicap (1350m)

[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1179993_06]

Dapper One is a dual acceptor that will be a definite player if it contends here. The horse has not finished outside the top-two across its last six runs, and while this is a steep rise in class, you cannot fault the form.

Race 6 tip: Dapper One to win ($10 at William Hill)

Race 7 – Benchmark 75 (2200m)

[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1179993_07]

Kirini is a clear standout here and will take a world of beating. The horse has won twice and placed second across its last three runs and is the runner to beat here.

Race 7 tip: Kirini to win ($2.05 at Crownbet)

Race 8 – Benchmark 85 (1200m)

[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1179993_08]

Publishing Power is undefeated this preparation across two runs and has won third-up in the past. The horse is towards the bottom of the weights and jumps from gate four, two big ticks. We are expecting Publishing Power to complete the hat-trick.

Race 8 tip: Publishing Power to win ($3.90 at Sportsbet)

Race 9 – Class 3 Plate (1200m)

[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1179993_09]

Lyricist has never missed a placing first-up and the horse is resuming after a seven month break here. The race is a tricky one given the size of the field, but the horse has drawn perfectly and can beat this lot fresh.

Race 9 tip: Lyricist to win ($8.50 at Crownbet)
