HorseBetting’s Queensland racing analyst presents his best bets and quaddie selections for Saturday’s nine-race metropolitan meeting at Doomben Racecourse, which is headlined by the Listed Tattersall’s Members Cup. The track is rated a Soft 5 and the rail is out 4.5m for the entire course, so the course should play reasonably well throughout the afternoon. The meeting is scheduled to get underway at 11:48am AEST.

Listed Tattersall’s Members Cup Best Bet at Doomben – Renouf

The Listed feature at Doomben on Saturday is undoubtedly the acid test for Paul Jenkins’ mare Renouf, but we think she can go to the next level. The six-year-old by Street Boss was a good winner four starts back at the Sunshine Coast, and since then she hasn’t been beaten far in three runs at metropolitan grade, including a fast-finishing third at this track and distance (1350m) last start behind Sir Rocket. While she does meet Sir Rocket 2kg worse at the weights, she looks to get the right run in transit required to turn the tables on the race favourite. With Larry Cassidy in the saddle again from the inside alley, Renouf looks the one to beat.

Best Bet at Doomben – The Ritz

Formerly with Michael Costa, The Ritz looks to have developed into a really nice racehorse who is just loving what he’s doing with Michael Morrison now. The five-year-old gelding is probably a bit unlucky to not be coming into this with three straight wins after some terrific runs in New South Wales country cups. He bolted in three back at the Gold Coast before going down narrowly to the classy Hosier in the Coffs Harbour Cup (1600m) and then he had to lug 60kg in the Murwillumbah Cup (1550m), where he didn’t get the best of rides. Now fifth-up and out to 2030m, the son of Mossman should be mighty hard to beat. Kyle Wilson-Taylor’s 1.5kg claim means The Ritz only has to carry 58.5kg, while barrier one allows him to conserve his energy for the business end. This looks a great bet in the first leg of the quaddie.

Next Best at Doomben – Be Water My Friend

Be Water My Friend has been a winning machine this preparation, boasting back-to-back wins at this track and distance across July and August. The Matthew Park-trained five-year-old finds himself in what will be a fast-run 1050m scamper, so while barrier one isn’t ideal for him, he is likely to be out the back with plenty of galloping room. Mark Du Plessis will be able to present him to the outside and allow him to finish off strongly like we have seen in his last few races. Despite winning well last start, he still only has to carry 55kg, so he’s been treated kindly once again, making him really hard to go past.
