THE mid-week meet at Doomben is the sole sunshine state meeting this Wednesday and a great day of racing is in the offing.

Race 1 – Class 3 (1200m)

Odelia dominated last start and we’re backing it in to deliver again. The horse is drawn perfectly and the strength of the six and a half length win is just too hard for us to ignore.

We tipped Page One to break the maiden last time out, and while it didn’t get the job done it did look impressive in defeat. We think the horse has the ability to improve that three parts of a length and Wednesday looms as the day it happens.

Beat The Beast placed second in its debut run and we think it has the ability to run to that level in a weak maiden field. We think it can improve after trailing since the good debut.

Race 4 – Maiden Handicap (1640m)

Escapado has been so close to breakthrough in its last two runs, where it has finished less than a combined length and a half off the winner. We expect the horse to settle in the back half of the field before unleashing all over the top of them in the latter stages of the race.

Race 5 – Class 3 (1640m)

Sornja should be winning this. The horse is dropping in class and gets a draw that will not hinder its propensity to go forward. We are backing it in to win.

Race 6 – Class 2 Handicap (1640m)

Savwell is a class runner that we cannot go past as our best bet of the day. First-up it man-handled the field as a short-priced favourite and there’s no reason to believe it will not do the same again on Wednesday.

Happy Hooves has a fitness advantage on the main market elect Double Superlative which we think will be pivotal. The horse has placed in four consecutive races and is always around the mark. We are backing it to topple the short-priced elect.

Race 8 – Benchmark 65 Handicap (1350m)

Last Armageddon is stepping up in class but we like what it brings to the table. The horse won strongly in Toowoomba on December 16 and we think it is capable of repeating the dose in a wide-open affair.

Race 9 – Benchmark 75 (1350m)

Patronizing only narrowly missed out last time and we think it can grow from that run. The horse has enough early speed to spear to the front from the outside alley and we think if it gets their cheaply it will take a power of beating.
