Doomben preview

What Doomben Races
Where Doomben Racecourse – 75 Hampden St, Ascot QLD 4007
When Saturday, October 22, 2022
First Race 12:38pm AEST

Doomben is the venue for Queensland Metropolitan circuit this weekend for a classy 10-race card on Saturday afternoon. We currently sit on a soft 7 track; however, the Queenslanders don’t seem as lucky this weekend on the weather map as last time with plenty on rain forecast, we’re expecting to be racing on the heavy range.

The rail sits out 3m the entire circuit so look for runners getting off the fence as the inside gets chomped up throughout the day.

The first race is scheduled to get underway at 12:38pm AEST.

Best Bet at Doomben – Enterprise Pomme

Enterprise Pomme finds the best bet tag on Saturday afternoon, when she makes her first-up appearance this preparation. This mare by Spill the Beans has a fantastic unbeaten record when fresh going two starts for two wins, plus she has a great record at Doomben with three starts for two wins. She builds a similar profile that saw her win first-up last prep at this track and trip, where she beat market elect in this race Self Indulgent that day as well on February 12. Steven O’Dea & Matthew Hoysted train this mare and will give apprentice Jaden Lloyd instruction to press forward on Enterprise Pomme, and if she can replicate her first-up efforts in the past, she looks the one to beat.

Next Best at Doomben – Classy Jaybee

This Jeremy Sylvestor-trained gelding Classy Jaybee is over the odds this weekend and finds our next best bet tag at the price. This former Hong Kong galloper has exceeded expectations so far since making his way back from overseas. He was first-up at Newcastle after a 499-day spell, and nobody was sure what to expect, but we we’re more than happy with what we saw saluting very nicely by a length in a competitive BM78. He travelled wide and without a lot of luck but was still too good for his rival that day, and we’re hoping he can do something similar on Saturday against the short-priced favourite here in Proper Rogue. Brodie Loy takes the mount this time, and while Classy Jaybee is dual accepted for Coonamble on Sunday, we’re keen if they elect to run in this 1200m contest.

Best Value at Doomben – A Call From Heaven

We look to bag back-to-back winners for the Doomben card as our value runner comes straight after our next best. Hasabro looks ready to win for the Annabel Neasham yard on Saturday afternoon, he comes into this race fit and keen to find the heavy ground on offer. He’s fourth-up here after travelling from across the Tasman and is yet to get out to his preferred distance, stepping up to the 1600m here looks spot on for the gelding by Savabeel. Brodie Loy takes another ride for us for the card and hopefully he can snag a winning double. He’ll be mid-field with cover from the barrier draw and looks to get the perfect run on the speed map, he’s a great each-way shout on Saturday.

Best Value

Race 9 – Silk #2 Hasabro (5)
