What Doomben Races
Where Doomben Racecourse – 76 Hampden St, Ascot QLD 4007
When Saturday, March 26, 2022
First Race 11:58am AEST

After meetings at Toowoomba, Eagle Farm and the Gold Coast over the past few weekends, metropolitan racing returns to Doomben this Saturday. HorseBetting’s Queensland racing expert presents his best bets for the nine-race program, as well as a quaddie that will cost you just $120 for 100% of the dividend. The track is rated a Soft 5, the rail is in the true position for the entire course, and racing is set to begin at 11:58am AEST.

BEST BET: Aidensfield

We were pretty keen on Aidensfield’s chances in her first start in Queensland on March 12, and while she didn’t get the job done behind the very speedy Osamu, she was very good in second place. Now trained by Desleigh Forster, the four-year-old mare looks very hard to beat as she gets out to 1200m – the distance she has won both of her races over. The mare by Dissident had some very solid Victorian form around mares like Annavisto and Colette at high levels which will make her more than competitive in a Class 3 Plate. First-up at Eagle Farm, Aidensfield had to overcome a wide barrier, which arguably cost her the race, so having drawn barrier three, staying at 55.5kg and gaining the services of Brisbane’s leading hoop Jim Byrne is going to see her prove incredibly hard to hold out. She will have to be well below her best if she is not to salute on Saturday.

Best BetRace 6 – Aidensfield $2.40 with Bet365

NEXT BEST: Lekvarte

Joseph Pride has a good strike rate when he brings horses north to Brisbane, especially at this time of year. On Saturday, Pride sends north three-year-old filly Lekvarte who is a very promising commodity. Given she was nominated for Saturday’s Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes at Rosehill Gardens over this trip where we thought she would be a sneaky chance at odds, we have to be with her in a Three-year-old Handicap at Doomben. The grey filly by Reliable Man won in really good style at Wyong on February 15, before being an absolute certainty beaten at Newcastle in her subsequent start. Most recently, Lekvarte worked home well from a near-impossible position in the Group 3 Kembla Grange Classic, finishing just 2.75 lengths behind Pretty Amazing who is an $8.50 chance in the Vinery on Saturday. She is drawn to do very little work from barrier two under Mark Du Plessis, so we expect her to be too good for her rivals on Saturday. She could be one of the leading Queensland Oaks contenders at this stage.

BEST VALUE: Lunasnit

Barry Lockwood and Robbie Fradd combine in the staying event of the afternoon with consistent galloper Lunasnit. The daughter of Star Witness rarely runs a bad race, placing in the top three on 16 occasions from 35 career starts. Only narrowly beaten over 2400m a fortnight ago at Eagle Farm, Lunasnit now comes back to 2000m at Doomben where she is yet to place in her two starts. In those two runs at Doomben, they have been over 1600m which is too short for this five-year-old, so we are happy to forgive her for those runs. Rock hard fit, back in trip down in class, Lunasnit might give this race a fair old shake at around $10.

Best ValueRace 5 – Lunasnit $10 with Ladbrokes
