Detonator Jack poised for Doncaster tilt
Detonator Jack, although not among Ciaron Maher’s most acclaimed contenders, appears to be poised to excel in Saturday’s Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m), benefiting from conditions that suit his strengths.
Darren Dance, owner of Australian Thoroughbred Bloodstock, expressed enthusiasm about the five-year-old’s prospects, stating to Racing.com, “He’s in great order, it’s very exciting to get into the Doncaster.”
Highlighting Detonator Jack’s adaptability to various track conditions, Dance noted, “We’ve always believed he goes as good on wet as he does on dry, when he won The Gong it was pretty wet and he seemed to get through it well.
“It’s a hard race to win but for once we have a decent gate (2), he’s got a low weight (52.5 kilograms) and it’s going to rain, so that’s three things in our favour.”
Considering the potential impact of inclement weather, Dance added, “If it’s really wet there’ll probably be a few come out, a few that don’t go in it, so there might only be six-to-eight horses that can win the race on the day and he’s probably one of them.”
“It’s not every day you get a $4 million race with a lot of things in your favour, so I don’t think there’ll be any excuses for him on the day.”
