Cranbourne Turf Club is scheduled to host an eight-race card on Friday night, and HorseBetting.com.au’s Victorian tipping expert presents his best bets and quaddie selections with odds from Australia’s leading betting sites. The track is rated a Good 4, the rail is out 7m for the entire circuit, and racing is set to start at 6:15pm AEDT.
Cranbourne Best Bet – Set The Sails
Fresh off a seven-month spell, the Mick Price & Michael Kent Jr-trained Set The Sails looks perfectly placed to break his maiden at start three. The three-year-old More Than Ready colt chased home the likes of All About Eve and Sudoko at Caulfield when unplaced as favourite on May 29. He was placed on debut when first-up in his initial campaign, narrowly defeated by a short half-head, suggesting he will handle the occasion on Friday. From barrier two, expect Patrick Moloney to take a sit just off the leaders’ heels. With even luck, Set The Sails should be sprinting clear from his rivals over the final 100m.
Next Best Bet at Cranbourne – Junko
We will be hoping the Mick Price & Michael Kent Jr stable can leave Cranbourne with at least a double when they saddle up Junko over 1000m in the fourth. The three-year-old Sooboog filly settled up on speed over this track and distance on January 7 but was ultimately outkicked inside the final furlong. She draws barrier two on Friday night, and we expect to see Craig Newitt have her dictate the speed throughout in what looks to be not the deepest maiden affair. Junko clearly has some ability and should be too hard to run down, so we are happy to take the $3.80 on offer from Ladbrokes.
Best Value Bet at Cranbourne – Hawkestone
It is not very often that you get $26 about a horse that has strung together three wins in a row, so we are more than happy to side with Hawkestone in the second leg of the quaddie. The eight-year-old gelding handled the rise out of the picnics into a BM58 with ease, getting his nose down on the line to claim victory by the barest of margins. He settled second with a big gap back to third, and despite being seemingly vulnerable in the home straight, he packed plenty of punches when it mattered most. From barrier 12, Kiran Quilty will look to use the 2kg claim to great advantage and have Hawkestone running along on speed. The $26 on offer is ludicrous and a price we are willing to take on.
