What Coffs Harbour Races
Where Coffs Harbour Racing Club and Function Centre – 62 Howard St, Coffs Harbour NSW 2450
When Monday, September 4, 2023
First Race 1:20pm AEST

Racing heads to Coffs Harbour on Monday afternoon, with a competitive seven-race card kicking off at 1:20pm. With no rain on the forecast for the area, we expect the track to stay at the current Good 4 rating for the entire meeting. The rail will be in the +3m position from the 1000m mark to the 350m mark and in the true position for the remainder of the course, with the cutaway being applied in the home straight.

Best Bet at Coffs Harbour: Rocky Rogue

Rocky Rogue was beaten by the barest of margins last start at Murwillumbah over 1200m on August 25. The Samantha McGuren-trained galloper appeared to have the race within his keeping when he trucked up to the leader at the 200m mark; however, Fairway Choice flew home down the outside and nabbed him on the line to win by an official margin of 0.1 of a length. On Monday, this son of Written Tycoon will meet a similar field, and if he does what he did last time, Rocky Rogue should find the winner’s circle for the very first time.

Best Bet

Race 3 – #2 Rocky Rogue (10)

5yo Gelding | T: Samantha McGuren | J: Matthew McGuren (58kg)

+180 with Bet365

Next Best at Coffs Harbour: Extessive

Extessive drops back from metropolitan to country grade after a third-place finish at the Sunshine Coast over 1400m on August 20. This four-year-old mare had won her two previous starts before heading to the Sunshine Coast, coming at the Scone 1400m and Doomben 1350m. Andrew Mallyon will stick with this girl for his third-straight ride on her, seeking his second victory. This daughter of Exceed And Excel appears to be the class runner in this race, and if she can bring her metropolitan form to Coffs Harbour, she should prove very hard to beat.

Nest Best

Race 5 – #8 Extessive (6)

4yo Mare | T: Kris Lees | J: Andrew Mallyon (59.5kg)

+300 with Palmerbet

Best Value at Coffs Harbour: Volfoni

The Greg Kilner-trained Volfoni returned from a four-month spell at Grafton last start, rattling home from the back of the field over 1000m to finish in third – only 1.8 lengths off Lady Tulessa. After such a strong performance fresh, the seven-year-old gelding seems to have come back in great shape and should be ready to run a big race second-up. This son of Smart Missile will have to jump from barrier 14, but with very little speed in this race, expect Matthew Palmer to push forward and sit on-speed. If Volfoni doesn’t have to do too much work early, he should give us a great sight out in front.

Best Value

Race 6 – #3 Volfoni (14)

7yo Gelding | T: Greg Kilner | J: Matthew Palmer (60.5kg)

+900 with Boombet
