Horsebetting.com.au has run the rule over the nine race card at Caulfield on Saturday and found tips for all nine races, along with best bets, top tips and quaddie numbers. With showers forecast throughout the day we may see a downgrade from the currently rated Good 4, but with Caulfield being in such good nick recently it should not deteriorate too much. The rail is out 10m, so may be a day where it could pay dividends to be up on speed. With such an open card at Caulfield it can also pay to check odds at multiple betting sites, before placing our bets.

Race 1 – Neds Handicap

Following the scratching of Brother’s Shadow, the opening event of Caulfield has been left with seven runners to face the starters. Having finished two lengths behind Lightsaber in the Group 2 Sires Produce at Flemington on March 6, the John Sadler-trained Cheerful Legend will appreciate the drop in class here on Saturday. Blessed with early pace, expect the colt out of Shalaa to be on-pace throughout the running and be too strong for the small field in a tactical affair.

Selections: 2-3-4-5

Race 2 – Neds Filter Form Handicap

Our best bet of the day comes up early on the Caulfield card on Saturday afternoon when proven Group 1 performer Dollar For Dollar steps out for his second up run. Having been well beaten in third place behind Ancestry in the Listed Abell Stakes on March 13 we expect the now eight-year-old to be rock hard fit. Racing in a non black-type race for the first time since April 2019, he should appreciate the drop in grade. With Will Price on board with his 2kg claim he should head to the front and be too hard to run down with a bit of class on his side.

Selections: 1-2-3-6

Race 3 – Neds Same Race Multi Handicap

What has Pravro done wrong to go around as a $13 chance (with Australian bookmakers) on Saturday afternoon? Two starts back he bolted in a BM78 at Echuca on March 7 and he meets a few of the rivals he beat on that day. Forget his last start at Moonee Valley over the 955m when running into more rump steak than at a steakhouse. Expect the son of Lonhro to be giving the leaders a bit of a start, but with a slick turn of foot he looks hard to hold out over the concluding stages of this 1100m.

Selections: 4-1-6-10

Race 4 – Catanach Jewellers Handicap

With a bit of luck we have struck early in the meeting on Saturday and we can load up on Lesage. Having only been beaten by a half length over the Moonee Valley 955m, behind a smart type who broke the track record that night, we expect Lesage to be too strong when third up from a spell. The Godolphin-trained Exceed And Excel mare has won when third up in the past, and having tasted success on three occasions on firmer going she should be fighting out the finish. The dangers look to come from Garvoc, Rainbiel and Cordilla in an open market, but we are pretty confident Lesage can get the job done

Selections: 3-9-8-6

Race 5- Hylands Race Colours Handicap

The Super VOBIS 3YO event sees a strong field of 10 assembled where only three runners missed the top three in their last start. With respect to race favourite Annavisto, the John Sadler-trained South Parade has put together a hat trick of wins at Sandown in dominating all the victories. On a day where it looks to be advantageous to be up on speed, under Matthew Cartwright, with a 3kg claim, we expect a similar result where he will be hard to run down. Look for Annavisto to take a sit just off the heels of South Parade, but the 3kg weight swing could be the difference on the day.

Selections: 2-1-6-10

Race 6- Lamaro Hotel Galilee Series Final

Opening the Caulfield quaddie is the feature event of the day the Listed Lamaro Hotel Galilee Series Final. Cindy Alderson has a stranglehold on the race with short priced favourite Liqueuro looking to make it four wins from five starts. However, we are looking to the favourite, stablemate in Reuber who had no luck in the Bendigo St Leger on March 27. Liqueuro was actually the winner of that race but had plenty go his way on the day and our top pick had no luck whatsoever. The likes of Through Irish Eyes will be making their run from the rear of the field, while Yankee Diva at $51 is certainly not the worst hope.

Selections: 2-1-10-6

Race 7- MRC Chairman’s Club Handicap

Silent Sovereign has been racing in tougher company than what he faces here on Saturday and with $10 on offer he looks well placed to bring up her second win of the campaign. Having only run home fairly in the Albury Gold Cup last time out, we will be looking for an improved effort, but her best has her right in this. In a race with a few in it that struggle to find the winning post it will certainly pay to play one at a bit of price, considering how hard the likes of Yonkers and The Lord Mayor are to catch.

Selections: 10-11-7-3

Race 8- The Promenade By Geoff Lindsay Of Lamaro

In the third leg of the Caulfield quaddie, the Dabernig & Hayes-trained Independent Road looks well placed to build on his last start win at Sandown. Having settled up on speed in that last start win on March 31, the son of Declaration Of War had plenty left in the tank when asked for an effort over the final 300m. Having drawn barrier one on Saturday, we expect Independent Road to take up the running along the rails, and in a race bereft of early pace he should get a quiet time of it out in front. With Mark Zahra back on board the pair should be too hard to run down in the penultimate race of the day.

Selections: 5-2-7-6

Race 9- Tile Importer Handicap

Our next best bet of the card comes up in the last race of the day with the Neville Parnham-trained Platoon looking to go one better than his runner up performance in the Bendigo Mile on March 27. Having been no better than three wide with no cover on that occasion, Platoon showed plenty to suggest he will be hard to hold out here at Caulfield. Having drawn barrier two he should settle just off the leaders heels and all the son of Playing God will need is a bit of luck at the top of the straight and should be too strong late for this field.

Selections: 5-9-11-1
