The track is rated a Good 4 with the rail back in the true position for the meeting with plenty of prize money on the line. Racing is set to get underway at 12:20pm AEST.

Race 1- VOBIS Gold Heath

[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1367030_01]

The opening event on the Caulfield card sees a short priced favourite in Mahamedeis go around, but we are taking him on with the inform Fanciful Toff. Having finished no worse than second in his last four runs, the Maher & Eustace-trained gelding looks well placed to bring up consecutive wins. He settled just off the speed at Bendigo and rounded up the leaders in form and held a solid enough margin to suggest he will go on with it here at Caulfield.

Selections: 4-2-3-8

Race 2- Neds Toolbox Handicap (Best Value)

[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1367030_02]

The second event at Caulfield looks to be a race with plenty of chances, which means there should be plenty of value to be found. Hence why we have settled on the Mick Price-trained My Gold Bracelet who comes back to Melbourne after being well held at Rosehill on a leader dominated track. The mare gets the blinkers on for the first time, and with two wins from three second up runs in her career she looks to be over the odds with $18 on offer. Liam Riordan hops on board and his 2kg claim could prove the difference in a race with plenty of chances, even the slightest advantage could pay dividends.

Selections: 6-13-4-2

Race 3- VOBIS Sires Guineas

[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1367030_03]

Whenever a runner bolts in at their last start, we are always cautious in backing them at their next start. That is the case with the $1.85 favourite Beau Rossa, and we are looking at Miss Inbetween to spoil the party for favourite backers. The Fighting Sun filly gets the wizard William Pike on board, and from barrier one she will need plenty of luck in the running, but this jockey is up to the challenge. Having beat home the smart Sirileo Miss at Sandown on March 5, Miss Inbetween will take a power of beating, so take the $6.50 on offer while you can.

Race 4- VOBIS Gold Mile (Best Bet)

[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1367030_04]

How does the field beat Mr Quickie? Sure, he needs to carry 61kg, 6kg above the minimum, but his main rival So Si Bon does need to carry 60kg himself. Mr Quickie beat home a handy field in the Group 3 Victoria Handicap when lugging 60.5kg giving away a hefty weight difference to his rivals. From barrier eight, he will be in the second half of the field, but as he did in the Victoria Handicap, Ben Allen will have Mr Quickie building through the gears at the right time and prove too hard to beat.

Selections: 1-2-6-8

Race 5- VOBIS Gold Dash (Next Best)

[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1367030_05]

La Mexicana steps back from the Group 1 Surround Stakes, and despite being well beaten the potential star had plenty of excuses from that run. He was vetted at the barriers, and then raced keenly throughout to be beaten a long way out from home. The filly returns to Caulfield where she has two wins from two starts at the track, including the Group 3 Kevin Hayes Stakes two runs back on February 6. From barrier two, we expect Jamie Kah to have her in the box seat, and be too good for this field on Saturday.

Selections: 2-1-5-7

Race 6- The Showdown

[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1367030_06]

One of the feature events on the nine race card at Caulfield is The Showdown worth a tick under a million dollars. In the field of 13 there looks to be three key winning changes, Finance Tycoon, Arcaded and our top pick Starry Legend. It goes without saying that some of the fields Starry Legend has beaten don’t exactly stack up to those that his rivals have been competitive in. However, we expect Michael Dee to get his mount to the rails from barrier eight, and if he can cross to the rails he looks very hard to beat.

Selections: 2-1-10-11

Race 7- Bel Esprit Stakes

[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1367030_07]

The Listed Bel Esprit Stakes will be run at a breakneck speed, thanks to the inclusion of Ancestry and Alfa Oro to the field. This race looks set up perfectly for backmarkers almost like this year’s Oakleigh Plate where on the back of a genuine tempo the swoopers will play a crucial part in the concluding stages. Hence why we have settled on Prophet’s Thumb, having only been beaten by under 2.5 lengths in the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap, she will appreciate the drop in grade and should be charging down the centre of the track late on in the piece.

Selections: 10-3-6-9

Race 8- VOBIS Gold Sprint

[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1367030_08]

The returning Felica will be looking to build on her impressive record around Caulfield where she has only missed the top three on one occasion. She has a similar record when first up from a spell, and with Will Price on board we expect the pair to lead throughout in the VOBIS Gold Sprint. Having competed in harder races during the spring than what she gets here, expect a bold effort out in front in the penultimate leg of the quaddie.

Selections: 6-3-1-11

Race 9- VOBIS Gold Distaff

[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1367030_09]

The returning Great Duchess has two wins from five starts at Caulfield and will be looking to make that a third win on Saturday. Coming off a 10 week freshen up following a run in the Geoffrey Bellmaine Stakes, the Greg Eurell-trained mare should appreciate the drop in grade and should not be far from the speed from barrier four. Having not missed the top three over the Caulfield 1400m expect her to take a sit off the speed and be too hard to hold out.

Selections: 3-14-10-8
