- Ben Melham and Ciaron Maher combined with the speedy Estriella ($5) to take out the Group 2 Caulfield Sprint (1000m). The daughter of I Am Invincible was dropping back from Group 1 grade at her previous two starts after racing in the Moir and Manikato Stakes at Moonee Valley, but she was tasked with carrying 59kg in the 1000m contest, which saw her drift with horse racing bookmakers. However, the four-year-old mare couldn’t have jumped better from barrier one, and she sprinted out to an early lead over Way To The Stars ($10), Scuderia ($61) and Ashford Street ($8.50). Melham was able to restrain the mare by the halfway mark and she travelled nicely around the turn, while the other speed influences appeared to be struggling and the swoopers were starting to make their runs. Estriella was given full bore with 300m to go as Rey Magnerio ($3.20) and Spacewalk ($7) started to throw out a challenge, and even though Rey Magnerio lunged on the line, the mare held on to claim a narrow victory.
- Michael Dee and Annabel Neasham combined with Doull ($13.00) to take out the Group 2 Caulfield Sprint (1000m). It was a brave performance by the son of Snitzel, who was seemingly headed by the heavily favoured Spacewalk ($2.60) with 100m to run. Michael Dee lifted the four-year-old off the canvas after sitting outside the leader throughout the journey, as Western Australian-trained gelding Indian Pacific ($15.00) kicked up to secure the lead early. It set up nicely for Spacewalk, who loomed large turning for home, but peaked on the run, allowing Doull to kick back on the inside to score a stunning victory.
- Jye McNeil and Asfoora ($4.40) managed to lead all the way to win the Group 2 Caulfield Sprint over 1000m, giving Asfoora her first Group win of her career. Asfoora led from barrier to finish post, beating the fast finishing Kallos ($7) and Generation ($8). The Henry Dwyer-trained mare jumped at $4.40 and was never in any serious threat of losing the race as Jye McNeil gave her an outstanding front running ride.
- Having been overhauled late in the Group 3 Heath 1100 the start prior, the Peter Moody-trained Oxley Road ($4) returned to the winners stall in the Caulfield Sprint. Having settled on the leaders heels from barrier three, Blaike McDougall and Oxley Road managed to stalk the speed throughout. As the leader’s edged off the fence, the run appeared for Oxley Road and with a swift turn of foot, he managed to haul in market fancy Malkovich ($4.80) in the shadows of the winning post.
- Danny O’Brien bred Graff and had always followed the enigmatic sprinter but it was only when the horse turned five that he had the chance to train him. And O’Brien looked to have unlocked the key to Graff later in life as he made a successful debut for the stable, taking out the Group Two Caulfield Sprint (1000m) to score his first win in over two years. O’Brien said he and jockey Damien Oliver hatched a plan where they would ride Graff quietly and then unleash his sprint and it worked to perfection. Graff ($9) defeated Fabergino ($8) by 1.25 lengths with Crystal Dreamer ($41) a half-head away in third.
- Following a runner-up effort behind Nature Strip in the Group 1 Moir Stakes (1000m), the Shaun Dwyer-trained Miss Leonidas went one better in the Caulfield Sprint. Jumping straight to the front under Stephen Baster, Miss Leonidas, the $3.90 equal favourite, held off fellow equal favourite God Of Thunder by a half-length with Malibu Style ($11) a long-head away third in what would be Miss Leonidas’ last run for the spring.
