Recent The Heath 1100 Stakes results
- Recommendation ($2) brought up a hat-trick of Group 3 wins at Caulfield when Blake Shinn piloted the Ciaron Maher-trained gelding to victory in the Vale Black Caviar. The race named in honour of the late great Black Caviar is registered as The Heath 1100 Stakes, and it is also the first time that Maher has won the race with any of his runners. With two of the key market chances, Chain Of Lightning and Arkansaw Kid, withdrawn earlier in the day, the race was left as a match race between Recommendation and Kallos ($2.50), and they didn’t disappoint. Shinn took the son of Shalaa to the front of the field and sat on the girth of Acromantula ($34), while Jamie Kah on the Godolphin galloper followed the eventual winner every step of the way. However, as the field turned for home, Shinn pushed the button on his five-year-old gelding, and he quickly put a margin on the second favourite. In the final 100m, Recommendation held a margin, and the runner-up couldn’t bridge the gap, going down by just under a length, with Nettuno ($9.50) running home into third place.
- Henry Dwyer and Mitchell Aitken have combined for a terrific first-up victory, as Asfoora ($2.50) displayed a dominant turn-of-foot in the Group 3 Heath 1100 at Caulfield. It was all too easy as the race unfolded perfectly for the returning daughter of Flying Artie, managing to lob the leader’s back position from barrier three under Aitken. The team Freedman-trained Midwest ($19) set a moderate tempo throughout the contest, allowing the heavily backed favourite a magnificent run in transit, before peeling off their backs to score a one-length victory. Ingratiating ($14), Generation ($11) and Magic Time ($4.80) were some of the notable chasers, but it was all for minor money as Asfoora was off and gone with the prize. It sets up a big preparation for the five-year-old mare, who now looks primed for a tilt at the Group 1 Moir Stakes later this spring.
- Queenslander Shooting For Gold ($9) managed to wear down Generation ($4.20) in a ding-dong battle in The Heath 1100 Stakes in 2022. Having been buried away on the fence three pairs back, jockey Damian Lane needed to be as patient as he could possibly be, awaiting for a gap to appear at the right time. Once the pair got off the back of the tiring Red Can Man, Shooting For Gold and Lane had to be at their best to gun down Generation and managed to do so in the shadows of the winning post, prevailing by a neck on the line. Race favourite Star Patrol ($3.70) was a shade disappointing when finishing third, a further 1.5 lengths off Generation.
- Despite being sent around as a $1.90 favourite, Masked Crusader was no sure thing pre-race needing to salute first-up from a spell and lugging 60kg against a smart field. Settling last under Jye McNeil, Masked Crusader was given every chance to balance up in the home straight and unleash his iconic finishing burst. Despite being five-lengths off leader Oxley Road ($8) with 200m to go, Masked Crusader flew home to get the better of Amish Boy ($8) by a widening three-quarters of a length margin and a tiring Oxley Road back in third. The win saw Masked Crusader tighten in The Everest betting markets.
- Having returned from a mandatory three-month suspension for bleeding, the Clinton McDonald-trained Diamond Effort produced a strong finish to claim Group 3 The Heath 1100 glory. Settled on the heels of the leaders, Ben Melham had Diamond Effort ($6) settled in the one-one throughout and when asked for an effort managed to level up to the leaders inside the final 100m and would go on to hold off the fast-finishing and slightly unlucky Lyre ($4.60) a neck away in second and on-pace influencer Runson ($61) a further neck away in third. McDonald admitted to concerns pre-race with Diamond Effort drawing the widest alley in the 13-horse field, following scratchings, but jockey Ben Melham was able to find cover early in the race and conserve energy in the run to the home turn and from there, the job was all but complete.
- Crystal Dreamer was sent around as a $41 chance, but defied the odds and got the better of a star-studded field in the 2019 edition of The Heath 1100 Stakes. First-up from a 12-month injury layoff, the seven-year-old managed to get the better of Gytrash ($4.20) and defending champion Ball Of Muscle ($4) in an impressive return. Crystal Dreamer started at massive odds and defeated the fast-finishing Gytrash by a half-length with leader Ball Of Muscle holding third, another long neck away.
