Caulfield Boxing Day betting preview
The Listed Christmas Stakes and the Listed Lord Stakes are the joint features on the card for Caulfield’s Boxing Day meeting. The track has come up a Good 4 despite plenty of rain during the week in Melbourne, while the rail is in the true position for Caulfield’s final meeting of 2020. The first on Saturday is set to jump at 12:45pm AEDT.
Mick Price and Jamie Kah combine with Ayrton, who comes from a dominant debut win at Bendigo to a Saturday BM70 at Caulfield. It’s hard to imagine that he does not stack up against this field considering how impressive he was in his five-length maiden victory. From the wide gate, Kah should have no issues in getting Ayrton across the field and dictating terms. You would think he would keep improving off that debut run, and he will take some running down as long as he can handle the track.
Coming off a last-start second at Flemington three weeks ago, the Danny O’Brien-trained Viral looks set to break a run of outs at Caulfield on Saturday. His last win was back in May over this course and distance when getting trapped three wide up on the pace. Considering he is coming off a similar run at Flemington, we’re tipping he’s back to the form that saw him win two on the bounce in the winter. The query is whether he can carry the 62kg as the top weight, but he is drawn to no work in the running and should have plenty to give when asked for an effort.
Patrick Payne and apprentice Tahlia Hope will be looking to string together consecutive victories with Ididitforlove, who was a flashy winner at Sandown three weeks ago. Despite drawing the car park for this assignment, the gelding has the early speed to find a good position in the running. Hope is quickly building a reputation as an on-speed jockey and will look to bag a rare city win on a Saturday with Ididitforlove, who boasts an impressive record of 5:3-1-0.
