Victorian metropolitan racing heads back to The Heath on Saturday afternoon for nine races out of Caulfield. HorseBetting’s Victoria racing analyst presents his best bets and quaddie numbers for the program, where an exciting prospect faces his biggest challenge yet. The track is rated a Good 4 and the rail is out 9m for the entire course, which could see an on-fence bias come into play. Racing gets underway at Caulfield at 12:05pm AEST.

Best Bet at Caulfield – Princess Rhaenys

Peter Moody has a handy mare on his hands in the form of Princess Rhaenys, who lines up in her second run for the campaign on Saturday. The four-year-old is very lightly raced with just four runs under her belt, but the stable had enough confidence to run her in the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) at just her third start 13 months ago. She held her own that day, running fourth at $19 odds, before going to the paddock for the best part of a year. The daughter of Iffraaj made a really nice return to the races on April 18 at Sandown Lakeside, doing her best work late over 1400m to run fourth. Now out to the mile, she can be finishing off over the top of her rivals late. The wide barrier (10) is a touch awkward, but Blaike McDougall should be able to slot in somewhere around midfield and ensure a nice cushy run in transit.

Next Best at Caulfield – Uncle Bryn

Who knows where this guy could get to? Uncle Bryn announced himself as a very promising horse on the up with a dominant four-length victory over Worthily at Sale on Good Friday over 1717m, looping the field and winning in a canter. The Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young-trained four-year-old goes from a Class 3 to a Benchmark 100 Handicap against some promising horses, but he also drops from 60kg down to 53.5kg, all while gaining the services of gun jockey Jye McNeil. The son of Sea The Stars comes back to the mile for his third Australian start, but that shouldn’t be an issue for this Group 1 winner in waiting.

Best Value at Caulfield – Awapuni Princess

The team at Boys Get Paid will be hoping their classy galloper Awapuni Princess can return to winning form on Saturday, and so are we. The four-year-old mare was a terrific winner at Caulfield last July, slicing her way through the pack to win right on the line. The daughter of Deep Field has had two starts in 2022, finishing midfield in both behind some handy gallopers. The Anthony & Sam Freedman runner gets the services of Matthew Cartwright on Saturday, with the young apprentice claiming 1.5kg in the race. She will have to get back in the run from barrier 12, so we hope they are making ground.
