Bookies: Weir’s star to turn table on Malaguerra in CF Orr Stakes
FOR those who thought Winx’s return to the race track on Saturday will be the sole focus of Australian racing, you better guess again after 10 individual group 1 winners were included in the 17 nominations for the C F Orr Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday.
Black Hart Bart ($3 at Ladbrokes.com.au) enters Australia’s first Group One race of 2017 as the favourite ahead of Malaguerra ($4 at Ladbrokes.com.au) and Caulfield Cup winner Jameka, which is at $11.
A highlight will be the battle between Australia Stakes winner Malaguerra and runner-up Black Heart Bart, with the Darren Weir star reportedly fitter this time out, and set to enjoy the increase in distance, from 1200m to 1400m, in a bid to upstage his rival.
Sportsbet also opened a market on the Group 1 Goodwood Handicap yesterday, with Black Heart Bart installed the $8 favourite to win the race for a second time. Also on the top line for the Morphettville group 1 are Illustrious Lad and Supido.
In the Robert Sangster Stakes, English and Sheidel are $7.00 equal favourites. Heathertly and Petit Filous ($8.00) share the second line.
“Black Heart Bart opened his Group 1 account in last year’s Goodwood and he’s gone on to win another two more majors. His first-up run was super and he looks a great chance to make it two in a row in Adelaide,’’ Sportsbet’s Christian Jantzen said.
The CF Orr Stakes will be run on a day when arguably the world’s best horse Winx returns in Sydney over the same distance in the Group Two Apollo Stakes at Randwick.
Other Orr Stakes entries includes Caulfield Guineas winner Divine Prophet, Emirates Stakes winner Awesome Rock along with fellow group one winners, Lucky Hussler, Turn Me Loose, He’s Our Rokkii, Palentino and Abbey Marie.
