What Bendigo Races

When Sunday, October 3, 2021
First Race 1:15pm AEDT

An eight-race card is scheduled for Bendigo on Sunday afternoon, and HorseBetting’s Victorian horse racing analyst presents his best bets and quaddie numbers with odds from Australia’s top bookmakers. The track is rated a Soft 7, the rail is out 5m for the entire circuit, and the meeting is set to commence at 1:15pm AEDT.

Bendigo Best Bet: Spirit Of Gaylard

Victoria Derby aspirant Spirit Of Gaylard is set to resume off a 19-week spell over 1500m. Having chased home the likes of Deprivation, Blushing Tycoon and Linas Legend on debut at Flemington on May 22, the Puissance De Lune colt hardly saw clear air but was only beaten 1.6 lengths in what was a favourable showing. The Mitchell Freedman-trained three-year-old has trialled in fine fashion in the lead up to this first-up run, and if he even brings 70% of what he is capable of, he should be simply too goo here. Look for Jordan Childs to roll forward on Spirit Of Gaylard and dictate terms, with a run in the Derby – where he is a $21 chance at Sportsbet – seemingly the main goal.

Best BetRace 2 – Spirit Of Gaylard (#8) $1.65 with Ladbrokes

Next Best at Bendigo: Litchfield County

In the opening leg of the quaddie, Mick Price and Michael Kent Jr saddle up four-year-old gelding Litchfield County, who resumes off a five-month spell. Having run second behind Beau Ross in the Tobin Bronze Stakes at his last run in May, he clearly has above-average ability and looks perfectly placed here. Since that run he has been gelded, and with form behind the likes of Beau Rossa, Muntaseera and Minhaaj, this BM70 looks a nice kickoff point for bigger targets this spring. He has a win over Curran to his name, and considering he can be tactically versatile – getting the job done from the rear of the field or on speed – he should be far too classy for this lot on Sunday.

Next BestRace 5 – Litchfield County (#2) $2.80 with Sportsbet

Bendigo Value Bet: Miss Tenthousand

Following a third-place finish behind the smart Marikmenko over 1400m here on September 15, Miss Tenthousand is sure to appreciate the step up to the 1600m. Having not finished worse than third in five career starts to date, the five-year-old Spirit Of Boom mare from Ciaron Maher & David Eustace’s stable looks to be a mare on the rise. First-up, she was hitting the line nicely after settling midfield, and we expect the extra 200m to be the recipe for success. Josh Richards hops on board claiming 1.5kg and from barrier five will took to lob the mare in the one-one. She will be hard to hold out.

Value BetRace 7 – Miss Tenthousand (#12) $11 with Sportsbet
