The Bendigo Jockey Club is scheduled to host a competitive eight-race card on Thursday afternoon on a track rated on a Soft 7. In recent times it has been no disadvantage to be up on speed at Bendigo, so throughout the day it will almost certainly pay dividends to back runners in the first four upon settling. Action at the ‘Nursery of Champions’ is set to commence at 1:30pm AEST.
Best Bet at Bendigo – Rich Divinity
It is hard to knock the way Rich Divinity has started his career for Ken & Kasey Keys, and he looks well placed on Thursday to bring up a third win from four starts. We know the Soft 7 conditions will not be an issue for him considering all three starts have been run on a Heavy 8 or worse. The four-year-old gelding enjoyed the perfect run in transit at Sandown on August 24 and, despite being pressured late on, kept kicking to prevail by a length. The step up to BM70 from BM64 grade should be no issue for the son of Rich Enuff, and from barrier six he should gain an equally economic run as he did last time out. With a genuine will to win and a favourable racing pattern, the $5.50 with some online betting sites looks to be a treat about Rich Divinity.

Next Best at Bendigo – Barmah Al
With a win and a second-placed effort from his last two starts, the Daryl Archard-trained Barmah Al looks one of the better bets on the Bendigo card on Thursday. The seven-year-old gelding relishes rain-affected ground with five of his six career wins coming on a track where he can get his toe into the ground. He was beaten at the Bendigo 2400m by 2.5 lengths last time out when finishing second, and in a race that is no harder than that, he is sure to take some beating. From barrier six, Alana Kelly should lob this bloke in the one-one or outside the leader at worst, where she can then stalk the speed and have Barmah Al moving through the gears approaching the home straight.

Best Value at Bendigo – Tapo
The Gwenda Johnstone-trained Tapo showed plenty of improvement from her debut run into her second start at Echuca on August 18, where she finished a half-length off in second. The three-year-old filly did plenty wrong in running and, despite hitting the lead inside the final 100m, found one better over the 1100m. She steps back to the 1000m, and while this looks a tougher maiden, Jack Hill should be able to lob this daughter of Frosted in the one-one throughout. If they are afforded that luxury, Tapo showed a finishing burst last time out that should have her right in a race like this. The $13 on offer with online bookmakers looks a perfect each-way play early in the day.
