Ballarat Synthetic racing preview & best bets | Tuesday, June 13

What Ballarat Races
Where Ballarat Turf Club – 240 Kennedys Rd, Miners Rest VIC 3352
When Tuesday, June 13, 2023
First Race 12:30pm AEST

The synthetic racing season is in full swing, and the next meeting will be held at the Ballarat Turf Club where it will host a very competitive nine-race card this Tuesday afternoon. There is a very high chance that we will see some showers during the program, but we don’t expect them to affect the all-weather track too much. The rail will be in the True position for entire circuit, with the first race kicking off at 12:30pm AEST.

Best Bet at Ballarat – Bun In The Oven

The second of five Maiden Plate’s to be run and won on Tuesday will feature the Ray Matthews-trained Bun In The Oven who finished second on debut at Kilmore last start, just getting run over in the final strides by Over ‘N’ Out on May 25. This three-year-old filly jumped well from barrier five and ran to the lead, before fighting off the challenge of Dreamt Ofbein King at the top of the straight, but couldn’t fight off the eventual winner. After showing great barrier manners for a debutant and settling nicely on speed, we expect this daughter of Reward For Effort will only improve off that run and should prove extremely hard to beat from the front. Harry Coffey will be legged aboard on Tuesday, and if he can get this girl to jump like she did last start from barrier two, Bun In The Oven should get every chance to break her maiden at start two.

Next Best at Ballarat – Philosophers Stone

After going down by a nostril last start, Philosophers Stone will be looking to go one better when he returns to the exact same track and distance on Tuesday in a Benchmark 64 Handicap. The Tony & Calvin McEvoy-trained gelding sat on-speed at his last start, before kicking clear by just over a length at the top of the home straight and he looked to have the race won; however, Pantegra put in one final lunge on the line and stole victory from the jaws of defeat. This son of Divine Prophet was only second-up last start and now that he stays at the same grade and distance, he should be ready to win if he gets even luck and can settle behind a strong speed. There appears to be an abundance of speed drawn outside of this guy, so if Declan Bates pushes forward and takes the back of the likely leaders in Tango Jewel and I Am Caviar, he should get a nice cart into the home straight before taking over in the concluding stages and recording a deserved victory.

Best Value at Ballarat – Rise To Stardom

The first of two 2100m races will feature the Matthew Cumani-trained Rise To Stardom who will be looking to break his maiden at his third start. This three-year-old gelding finished fifth last start after settling three-wide for the entire 2000m trip at Seymour on May 21. Even though this son of Tosen Stardom sat wide last start, he never gave up and kept finding over the last 300m, which indicates to us that he will be able to run out a strong 2100m third-up. Getting back to his home track at Ballarat and drawing a much better barrier (2), should prove to be two pivotal factors that should see an improved effort from this gelding. With only one natural leader engaged in this race, we should see Declan Bates push forward and hold the box seat behind the leaders. If Rise To Stardom gets a gap at the top of the home straight, we expect him to be one of the strongest runners in the concluding stages.

Best Value

Race 5 – Silk #6 Rise To Stardom (2)

3yo Gelding | T: Matthew Cumani | J: Declan Bates (59.5kg)
