Racing in Victoria heads to Ballarat on Tuesday afternoon, where a competitive eight-race meeting is set down for decision on the Synthetic circuit. The Ballarat races on July 22 are set to jump at 1pm AEST.

Best Bet at Ballarat: Brave Carol

Brave Carol brings rock‑solid synthetic form to the penultimate event over 1000m and looks poised to go on with it after breaking her maiden stylishly last time out. The Andrew Noblet‑trained filly showed a slick turn of foot to score here on July 4 and now stays at the course and distance while only rising 2kg. From barrier four, Neil Farley can camp just behind the leaders before unleashing a similar finishing burst. If she holds her rating from her latest win, Brave Carol should be saluting at a nice price with horse racing bookmakers.

3yo Filly | T: Andrew Noblet | J: Neil Farley (59.5kg)

Next Best at Ballarat: African Pioneer

African Pioneer showed true staying class when grinding out a tough on-pace victory over this trip on June 11 and looks well placed to repeat the effort at the 2200m. Matt Cumani keeps the six‑year‑old on the synthetic, and the 2kg claim for apprentice Emily Pozman offsets the 59kg. Drawn in gate eight, expect African Pioneer to roll forward again, control the tempo and prove hard to run down in a race lacking genuine pressure.

Next Best Again at Ballarat: Absolute Sunshine

Absolute Sunshine has hit the frame in five of her last six starts and the best way home at Ballarat. The Hayes team have found a winnable assignment for the Tosen Stardom mare, who draws the pole and gets Will Gordon to steer. With tactical speed to hold the rails behind the leaders, she only needs clear air turning for home to capitalise on the drop from BM64 grade. Absolute Sunshine makes plenty of appeal with even luck at the right time.
