Ballarat Turf Club is set to host an eight-race card on Sunday afternoon on a track rated a Heavy 9 with the rail out 8m the entire circuit. Fresh from a first-up third-placed finish at Pakenham, the Peter Moody-trained Spirit of Gold is a clear best bet on the Ballarat card. The former Kiwi gets to rain-affected going, which is his preffered surface considering he has not missed the top three in three runs on soft ground. His last start in New Zealand just two runs back saw her smashed her rivals by over three lengths on soft ground and if she turns up with a similar performance on Sunday she just simply wins.

Phillip Stokes and Ben Allen combined with the three-year-old Keep On Bopping who is another who comes to Ballarat with strong wet track form. He is undefeated on soft ground from two starts and from the wide barrier we expect Ben Allen to look for the lead early on where he may prove hard to run down. He is yet to miss the top three in all seven career starts and if he gets his own way out in front on Sunday, he should be making it three wins from his past four starts.

The Paul Preusker-trained Lunch Session was the first horse across the line at Geelong on April 30 but was relegated to second on protest. Dean Holland hops back on board the son of Reward For Effort for the first time since June 26, 2020 where he was a smart Donald maiden winner at the end of his last campaign. Having been across the line first at his last two starts, Lunch Session is in strong form, and at an each-way price he is one we are willing to be with in the third leg of the quaddie.
