Asfoora clinging to favouritism in Robert Sangster Stakes
The fillies & mares get set to scorch the Morphettville turf on Saturday afternoon, with a quality field of 16 set to line up in the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m).
The Henry Dwyer-trained Asfoora is clinging to favouritism with horse racing bookmakers post-barrier draw, with the daughter of Flying Artie set to do it the hard way, drawn out in barrier 14.
She remains a $5 chance with despite the precarious barrier, however, with punters willing to respect her first-up victory in the R.N. Irwin Stakes (1100m) at this course on April 12.
It came after a lengthy absence for the six-year-old mare, returning to Australia after a testing overseas campaign that culminated in a fourth-place finish in the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes (1000m) at York.
Climbing Star finished third behind Asfoora first-up and is best backed to turn the tables heading into Saturday, with the daughter of Zoustar looking for back-to-back wins in the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes.
Lachlan Neindorf achieved a maiden Group 1 success aboard the five-year-old this time last year and has a terrific opportunity to replicate the feat from stall seven.
Stretan Angel and Commemorative have been best backed at the $7 apiece with and come through some genuine Group 1 form-lines, while there’s a big break in the market to the likes of Estriella, See You In Heaven and Ameena all around the $17 with .
The 2025 Robert Sangster Stakes is race eight on the Morphettville program and is set to be run-and-won at 4:12pm local time.
