What Albury Races
Where Albury Racing Club – 16-46 Fallon St, Albury NSW 2640
When Thursday, March 20, 2025
First Race 1:50pm AEDT

Albury Racing Club gets set to host a quickfire seven-part program on Thursday afternoon, with the first of two days of racing scheduled for Albury Gold Cup (2000m) week. The rail is in the true position the entire circuit for the opening day, and with some moderate rainfall expect to hit the course proper on race-day morning, punters can expect the track to be rated in the Soft range. All the action for Day 1 is set to commence at 1:50pm local time.

Best Bet at Albury: Acappella Sun

The best bet comes up in the final race of the program, where Acappella Sun appears supremely placed heading into her fourth start of the preparation. She was a winner at Canberra two starts back in the Federal – National Sprint Preview (1200m) on February 21 before bombing the start at Warwick Farm on March 5, where the daughter of Sebring Sun was heavily supported with horse racing bookmakers prior to the jump. The five-year-old mare should make amends drawn the rail (1), and with only 55kg on her back, Acappella Sun will prove hard to hold out in this open handicap.

Next Best at Albury: Rose Aye

The Matthew Dale barn have been patient picking a third-up assignment for Rose Aye, however, this Class 1 contest appears to be an ideal target. The Supido filly has been excellent in two starts this preparation, claiming a dominant six-length maiden victory at Nowra on February 9 before being narrowly headed at the same course and distance by Istolea Merc on February 23. Stepping out the 1400m should be no issues, and with Nick Heywood likely to gain an ideal run from stall seven, Rose Aye should get every chance to figure in the finish once again.

Next Best

Race 3 – Rose Aye Silks#2 Rose Aye (7)

3yo Filly | T: Matthew Dale | J: Nick Heywood (58.5kg)

Best Value at Albury: Group Chat

Group Chat debuts on the back of one soft barrier trial win at Goulburn back in May of 2024, and with no official piece of work since, you must take on trust the daughter of Rubick is wound-up for this first-up. The layoff is a minor concern, however, her work prior to the break was sensational, cruising through the wire to suggest she had plenty left in the tank. This will be a terrific test to see where she’s at, and at a good price with Dabble, Group Chat gets the verdict on debut in the opener.
