Gunnedah full form & tips for Tuesday, January 16

THE agricultural hub of Gunnedah is hosting racing this Tuesday after the quiet Monday of racing in Australia.

The NSW town is one of only two venues hosting a full eight race card, and we’re looking forward to what the day will bring.

Let’s get stuck in.

Race 1 – Maiden Handicap (1000m)

Dollar Thief missed out by less than a length on New Year’s Eve at Gilgandra and we think it can learn a lot from that performance. In a field with not a lot of form to go on this looms as a winnable event.

Race 1 tip: Dollar Thief to win at Sportsbet

Race 2 – Class 3 Handicap (900m)

Landuar resumes here and looks poised to win. Prior to being turned out the horse had recorded two placings in its last four runs, and from four first-up attempts the Landuar has won and placed a further two times.

Race 2 tip: Landuar to win at Neds

Race 3 – Maiden Plate (1200m)

Frogmarch will look to hunt forward from barrier three in a race without a lot of speed in it. Two starts back the horse only just missed out from breaking the maiden and the last-start fourth was encouraging too. We’re backing Frogmarch to breakthrough here.

Race 3 tip: Frogmarch to win at Ladbrokes

Race 4 – Maiden Plate (1200m)

Elusive Valley surprised on debut as a $21 outsider at Crownbet. It will benefit greatly from the first run and we are backing it at the second time of asking.

Race 4 tip: Elusive Valley to win at Sportsbet

Race 5 – Class 2 (1200m)

Call Me Brad has been terrific in recent runs. After recording its maiden Gunnedah win two starts back the horse delivered a gallant second placed finish at Inverell on New Years Day. It could get tricky from the wider barrier but we think it has the ability to go forward and win from the front.

Race 6 – Class 1 Handicap (1600m)

It’s Relative is undefeated at the Gunnedah track and has only missed the first four once in its career. This is the horse’s first attempt at the mile but it has dealt with distance rises in the past well. It gets a decent barrier to jump from and will be hard to hold out here.

Race 6 tip: It’s Relative to win at Crownbet

Race 7 – Benchmark 65 (1600m)

[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1178546_07]

Hooge has barrier 13 to overcome but a three race win streak last preparation goes to show how impressive this horse is at its best. The mare has two victories from four attempts at the mile trip and we think it will relish the chance to again confront the 1600m journey.

Race 7 tip: Hooge to win at Crownbet

Race 8 – Benchmark 54 (1000m)

Undercarriage broke its maiden in eye-catching fashion last time out and we think it can go straight into benchmark company and continue on. It isn’t the strongest field we’ve ever seen so we believe the son of Foxwedge can make it two wins on the trot to round out the Gunnedah card.

Race 8 tip: Foxwedge to win at Crownbet
