Sheer Madness’ connections focusing on group glory
SHEER Madness’ connections are hopeful that group races are on the horizon after the gelding recorded a powerful win at Flemington on Saturday.
In a wide-open market, apprentice jockey Ethan Brown kicked the +750 outsider at Crownbet.com.au clear to win in classy fashion ahead of Confluence (+110 at WilliamHill.com.au).
Kedleston rounded out the placings and returned +320 to Sportsbet.com.au punters.
Co-owner Frank Salanitri was full of praise for Brown’s ride following the race.
“He’s a good up-and-coming kid with a good head on his shoulders and we’re rapt to give him that winner.”

The win was the second victory for Sheer Madness, which has experienced a hit-or-miss career to date after failing to place in any other race it has not saluted in.
Salanitri has November’s Victoria Derby in the crosshairs for the son of Moshe after the breakaway win.
The co-owner believes there is still plenty of improvement left in the three-year-old.
“The penny hasn’t dropped with him yet,” he said.

“He’s still a bit raw and when he hit the front he wanted to wander a bit but he’s an exciting horse and I think he’s got a future.”
Salanitri believes he has a Derby prospect on his hands, and thinks a step up in journey will be well within Sheer Madness’ grasp.
“We’ll probably have a go at the Guineas but ideally I think he’s a Derby horse.
“I think he’s looking for ground.”
