Racing returns to Wyong on Sunday afternoon where a competitive eight-race meeting is set down for decision. With clear skies forecast leading into the meeting and on race day itself, the track is likely to come up as a Good 4, despite being a Soft 5 at the time of acceptances. The rail will be out 3m the entire circuit, with the first event set to jump at 12:55pm AEST.
Best Bet at Wyong: Golden Century
Dropping back to maiden grade after measuring up in serious three-year-old company, Golden Century looks ready to win. The Chris Waller-trained gelding was a slick third behind Sirius Legend at Hawkesbury (1500m) on August 12 and now stretches to 1625m from the inside draw (1) with Zac Lloyd aboard. His New Zealand classic form reads superbly for a provincial maiden, and a Soft 5 holds no fears. Expect him to park rails-in-run behind a genuine tempo and build through his gears from the 500m.
Best Bet
Race 1 –
#2 Golden Century (1)
4yo Gelding | T: Chris Waller | J: Zac Lloyd (59kg)
Next Best at Wyong: Sanctified
Sanctified brings proper black-type two-year-old form to a provincial three-year-old maiden and looked ready to win when resuming with a strong second at Randwick-Kensington, finding the line like a colt who’ll relish 1200m now. He maps to land midfield with cover from gate nine, and with Kerrin McEvoy sticking, he can control when to peel. His trials/race splits say he’s come back sharper, and with race fitness on rivals still learning their craft, this looks like a logical launchpad before Saturday targets. If the inside is still OK, he won’t need to be too far away to blouse them late.
Next Best
Race 4 –
#5 Sanctified (9)
3yo Gelding | T: Gerald Ryan & Sterling Alexiou | J: Kerrin McEvoy (57kg)
Best Value at Wyong: Zipitalist
Zipitalist appeals at a price with horse racing bookmakers in the finale. He’s freshened with a sharp 800m soft-track trial and returns to a trip where he has a win and two seconds from five starts and owns ratings that stack up against this lot. From gate seven he can stalk a hot tempo with Angus Villiers, and his best runs last prep were at 1200–1400m when allowed to build into the race rather than chase from too far back. With plenty of tempo expected, Zipitalist is capable of swamping them late.
Best Value
Race 8 –
#4 Zipitalist (7)
5yo Gelding | T: Mitchell Beer | J: Angus Villiers (58.5kg)
