The feature event on Caulfield’s nine race card on Saturday afternoon is the listed Galilee Series Final which sees a field of 11 three-year-olds battle it out over 2400m. Horsebetting.com.au has come up with the best $100 betting strategy for the $150,000 race that opens the Caulfield quaddie.
The speed in the race looks to come from the rank outsider Don’t Rush Ruby who from barrier three will look to lead ahead of Mystery Bad Guy and Silicon Valley.
I am willing to take on favourite Liqueuro and side with the Cindy Alderson-trained Reuber, who got absolutely no luck in the Bendigo St Leger Trial on March 27. Reuber went close to taking out the Vobis race at The Valley on March 13 and will relish the step up to 2400m journey. But it was Reuber’s impressive win, at Werribee three starts back, that has us believing he will be savaging the line late.
Liqueuro is no doubt the best runner in the race, but you can rule us out of taking the $1.90 odds on offer. He needed to sustain a long run at Bendigo when taking out the St Leger Trial and held off the fast finishing Explosive Jack. His only fault came at Sandown when settling towards the rear of the field and just had too much ground to make up. He could strike something similar here at Caulfield. If afforded a bit of luck, watch for Jye McNeil to have the race favourite charging down the middle of the track late.
One who looks to be an interesting stayer in the making is the Nigel Blackiston-trained Yankee Diva, who goes from a midweek Kilmore to listed company in the space of four weeks. If there is a genuine tempo throughout the 2400m there is no reason why Yankee Diva cannot spring a surprise at $51 with a well timed run. It’s worth comparing odds at several of Australia’s top bookmakers, particularly when betting on roughies.
