A field of 16 fillies and mares has been assembled to contest Friday’s Group 3 Dark Jewel Classic on Scone Cup Day. The 1400m event should see them go fairly quick in front with speed influences like Irithea, Margie Bee and Electric Girl. More Prophets opened as the $4.80 favourite, slightly ahead of Rocha Clock at $5.50. HorseBetting.com.au brings you the best betting plays for the $200,000 features.

Dark Jewel Classic 2021 preview

More Prophets brings great form into this race following a slashing third behind the very talented Lost And Running last time out. The John Thompson-trained mare is a two-time winner over 1400m and is yet to miss the placings in nine career starts. First-up she left herself too much to do late over the 1200m, so the rise to 1400m should suit. Barrier five should give her a chance to settle closer to the front under Tim Clark, and with only 54kg to carry, we expect her to be too good for this lot. The $4.80 appeals.

Asiago is a quality mare and should find this easier than her last few starts. The James Cummings runner was only beaten a length in the Group 1 Empire Rose Stakes at Flemington and then went on to run third in The Hunter behind Sweet Deal, which is good form for this. When she was first-up this campaign she faded to finish sixth at Group 2 level before running seventh in the Newcastle Newmarket, albeit only three lengths off them. She has had two months between runs and has trialled in between, so she should carry residual fitness into this. She shapes to get a great run from barrier seven, and Kerrin McEvoy in the saddle is a plus too.

John O’Shea’s four-year-old mare Rocha Clock deserves to be at the pointy end of the market after a strong win first-up at Randwick on April 24th in a Benchmark 100. The Pierro mare got a long way back in the run and stormed home down the middle to defeat Nudge, who has since run second in a $500,000 race at Gosford. She has drawn poorly in barrier 14, meaning Rachel King will have to take her towards the rear, but she will have plenty of time in the big straight to wind up and attack the finish. She does rise 3.5kg into a harder race, though.
