The Group 1 Caulfield Stakes (aka Might And Power Stakes) is the one of feature events on the 10-race card at Caulfield on Saturday, and HorseBetting’s Victorian form analyst presents his top selections and betting strategy for the 2000m weight-for-age race. Zaaki is a $1.30 favourite with online bookmakers as he continues on his way to the Cox Plate.
Zaaki is arguably the best horse going around in the country, and Group 1 wins do not come any easier than his in the Underwood Stakes on September 25. The run was essentially a paid trial with Group 1 rewards at the end, as Craig Williams barely asked him for an effort. Considering this is no harder than the field he beat last time out, this should just be a matter of how far Zaaki wins by. With Homesman and No Effort in the race, he should be able to take a sit off the speed and round his rivals up with 200m to go. We can rattle on about how good this horse is, but the Annabel Neasham-trained gelding should be simply too good again.
The only potential dangers are clearly Homesman and Probabeel. Despite the solid credentials of the two Group 1 winners, Zaaki is next-level good. If Willow asks him to go, he will give his rivals windburn as he goes past.
