Villiers Stakes 2020 betting preview
A ticket into next year’s Doncaster Handicap is on offer for the winner of the Group 2 Villiers Stakes on Saturday at Randwick. Through The Cracks and Criaderas share favouritism in a classy field of 14, while Outrageous, Royal Celebration and Greysful Glamour all are in single figures. It’ll be a battle for the early lead, with Greysful Glamour and Fun Fact likely to pursue early supremacy.
Outrageous has won two on the trot and is starting to fulfil the potential that he showed early in his career, so we are keen to back him at around $7. He couldn’t have been more impressive at Flemington and then backed it up a fortnight later in the Festival Stakes. While he’s never been successful at Randwick or over 1600m, he should get a good run from barrier 10 under Tommy Berry and have every chance to win this.
Through The Cracks has burst onto the scene late in the spring, winning in Newcastle and then putting in a big run as favourite in the Festival Stakes. He won the Provincial Championship at this track in style in the autumn, so he knows the track well. The lightly raced six-year-old has never been at a mile before, which is some query, but the speed on should help him save his energy for one late bid.
Greysful Glamour was the win of the day a fortnight ago when she got conditions to suit and led all of the way to win by 2.5 lengths in the 2000m ATC Cup. She does drop back to 1600m, where she is a maiden from nine starts, but she will again get a dry track and she’s rock-hard fit. From barrier six, Rachel King will send her to the front and look to make every post a winner.
