Randwick betting preview

Randwick hosts a bumper 10-race program on Saturday, headlined by the Group 2 Villiers Stakes. The track is rated a Good 4, with the rail in the true position for the entire circumference. Race 1 jumps at 12:40pm local time.

Best BetRace 6 – Tailleur (#1) $2.80 with Sportsbet

Kerrin McEvoy and James Cummings combine with promising up and comer Tailleur. The four-year-old mare by Shooting To Win has won four from five, with her only defeat coming on a Heavy track on a day that favoured leaders. She was awarded a light spring carnival, which would have no doubt brought her on for what will technically be only her second campaign. She was a six-length winner at Moonee Valley in the final run of her last campaign, which ended in August, before trialling fairly a fortnight ago. Drawn barrier eight, she’ll sit off them and prove far too good. She looks a genuine top-line sprinter in the making.

Next BestRace 9 – New Arrangement (#9) $4.80 with Sportsbet

The way Twitter blew up over James McDonald’s ride aboard this gelding last start would suggest that half of the country was on him at $11. He was given a fairly plain run in transit, three wide without cover, and still stuck on quite well to run fourth. He drops 5kg here and has drawn well in barrier three under Tommy Berry, while the rise to a mile looks to suit him down to the ground. Here’s hoping he has the Chris Waller polish on him for Saturday and can return to the winner’s stall.

Best ValueRace 3 – Travest (#2) $6.50 with Sportsbet

One horse we have a bit of time for is Greg Hickman’s four-year-old son of Tavistock, Travest. Lining up in just his fifth race start, the lightly raced gelding will be aiming to win his third race, after opening his record stylishly with back-to-back wins. He had excuses at his next two starts when third and fifth respectively. He trialled nicely under Tommy Berry, who has ridden him at all four starts and will partner him here again. He’ll be near last early, but the speed in the race will suit him and his cracking late splits. He flies fresh (2:2-0-0) and will figure in the finish.
