BLUE Diamond Stakes placegetter Zamzam has won for the first time in over a year after showing a blistering turn-of-foot to take out the Primacy Handicap at Flemington.

The three-year-old filly raced prominently throughout the running and booted clear at the 400m mark to register an eye-catching win and return $18.60 at WilliamHill.com.au.

Just Hifalutin ($2 at Crownbet.com.au) ran on well to finish second in a photo finish alongside Greviste, which handed $3 to Sportsbet.com.au clients.

In a familiar tale for favourite backers at Flemington on Saturday, $3 favourite at Crownbet.com.au Widgee Turf put in a shocking race and never gave investors a chance.

Jockey Luke Nolan said Zamzam quickened nicely when asked for an effort.

“She sprung the gates very well and we got into a lovely spot when the pressure was on,” Nolan said.

“She was prominent very early in the straight but she saw it right out.”

Hayes and Daberning stable representative Gary Fennessy said it was a patient wait for the star prospect to taste success once again.

“It’s been a long time,” Fennessy said.

“The way she won that, it looks like she’s back.”

It was an inauspicious race for a Blue Diamond style horse, but Fennessy is hopeful that today’s display will hold Zamzam in good stead for an attempt as success during the spring carnival.

“We’ve given her a fair break… but hopefully she can measure up now get back for the spring.”
