It was a memorable Swan Hill Cup Day for veteran jockey Dean Yendall as he booted home five winners including Adelaide Ace in Sunday’s feature.

That effort brought up consecutive triumphs in the Swan Hill Cup for the Victoria-based hoop, who partnered Heptagon to victory in 2020.

It was Yendall’s magic touch that saw the Lindsey Smith-trained Adelaide Ace bring up his first win since his Group 2 success in the Caulfield Autumn Classic in February 2020.

It wasn’t Yendall’s first win for Smith on the card, after the jockey booted home the $1.85 favourite More in the opening race.

Yendall went on to take out the first three races of the day, including a maiden-breaking ride on the Matthew Williams-trained Almsgiver – who was beaten as a $1.01 favourite at Geelong last time out – in the third event.

Having been starved of rides in the city over the past 12 months due to Victoria’s COVID-19 protocols, Yendall has tried to make the most of each metropolitan ride he gets in recent times, but it is on the country circuit where he truly thrives.

With wins for Smith and the Tom Dabernig & Ben Hayes stable, Yendall may see himself making trips into metro meetings on a more regular basis if he keeps dishing up efforts such as the one he put in Sunday.

Yendall also partnered Prince Ziggy ($2.80) to victory in the Think Big Classic, the race prior to the Swan Hill Cup.
