Yearn set to return at Te Rapa on Tuesday
The Savabeel four-year-old is fresh off a short time-out following a disappointing showing in the Group 2 Rich Hill Mile (1600m) at Ellerslie on New Year’s Day.
“We’re not too sure just what went wrong with her at Ellerslie,” said trainer Karen Fursdon.
“I don’t think it was the track, although it was very wet, as it just may have been one of those things.
“She is a mare that had done a lot in a very short period of time and it just may have caught up with her on the day.”
Fursdon is confident she has the four-race winner back on the right track as she prepares to tackle a small but select line-up in a rating 85, 1400m contest.
“She’s been working up well and I think she is fairly forward to resume,” she said.
“I guess my only concern is one or two will have race fitness on their side, but I still expect her to acquit herself well.
“Safely through the race we will make a decision on where we go from here, but her main aim will be the Group 1 at Te Aroha.”
Fursdon was referring to the Group 1 Fiber Fresh New Zealand Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes (1600m) that will be run as the feature race at Te Aroha on 7 April
