X-rays for Oliver following barrier mishap

Jockey Damien Oliver will have X-rays after his leg became jammed against a metal petition in the barrier stalls at Flemington.

Oliver was assisted back to the medical room after Thousand Wishes played up as the field was about to be dispatched in Wednesday’s Rose Of May Handicap.

Victorian Jockeys’ Association chief executive Matt Hyland said Oliver had bruising to his shin.

“He’s pretty sore at the moment so hopefully it’s just bruising and that’s all,” Hyland said.

Oliver was stood down from his further engagements on Wednesday but it’s hopeful he’ll be given the all-clear for his Group One rides at the weekend.

He’s booked to ride Spright in the Moir Stakes at Moonee Valley on Friday night and Grunt in the Underwood Stakes at Caulfield on Sunday.
