Kris Lees and Brenton Avdulla combine in the sixth with the beautifully bred Sammy (Medaglia d’Oro x Samantha Miss). The three-year-old colt has won just the one race, which came at this track in September over 1200m on a Good 4. He has been on wet tracks in both runs this time in, so back onto a dry deck will be just what the doctor ordered. Avdulla will take him to a positive position from gate six, and Sammy should be too good for these third up at 1350m.

Next Best: Spicy Restaurant
Spicy Restaurant gets his chance to break through in the third when he lines up in a 1350m maiden. Tyler Schiller will hop aboard the Danielle Seib-trained three-year-old, and his 2kg claims brings the weight down to 56.5kg – some 3kg less than the weight he has carried both times in this campaign. Having run second and third in two runs this prep over 1200m, the rise to 1350m looks the perfect set up. Drawn well in barrier four, he will be given every chance and can get the monkey off his back in this.

Best Value: Buzz
Buzz lines up in the penultimate race of the day and looks a live chance to go one better than last time out. The five-year-old was beaten 11 lengths in a Canterbury race behind Equation and Blesk, who have both won since, before jumping out of the ground at his next start when second at this track to Isorich over 1350m. Those two meet each other again at the same track and trip, but Buzz meets the 10-year-old gelding 2kg better off at the weights, so we are confident he can turn around the 1.14-length margin from last time.
