What Wyong Races
Where Wyong Race Club & Function Centre – 71-73 Howarth St, Wyong NSW 2259
When Tuesday, February 21, 2023
First Race 1:15pm AEDT

Racing will head to the Central Coast of New South Wales this Tuesday afternoon for a very competitive eight-race program out of Wyong Racecourse. After heavy rain in the region on Saturday evening, the track currently sits in the Soft range; however, with warm weather and no rain on the forecast for Monday and Tuesday, we should begin racing on a Good surface. The rail will go out to the +3m position for the entire circuit, while racing kicks off at 1:15pm AEDT.

Best Bet at Wyong: Condrieu

We won’t have to wait long to see our best bet of the day go around, with the John O’Shea-trained Condrieu looking to kick off her second racing campaign with back-to-back wins after recording a nice victory first-up at Goulburn over 1400m on February 5. This lightly race five-year-old mare has only been to the races on two occasions, with her debut run seeing her run third over 1400m at Canterbury back in September last year, before going out for a four-month spell. At her first start this preparation, she went around as an odds-on favourite at $1.65 with online bookmakers, and even though she did a bit wrong, she got the job done and started to pull away from her rivals in the final 50m to record a nice half a length victory. Rising to a Class 1 Handicap and to 1600m is no negative for this daughter of Sebring as she looks to be progressive and she only got better the further she went last start. Reece Jones will retain the ride and if he can have her settle mid-field and travel around the home turn, she will be running home strong down the outside late.

Next Best at Wyong: Grand Crusader

In the very next race we will see the Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes-trained Grand Crusader go to the races for the second time this preparation, after he was sensationally scratched in the mounting yard after he was presented with the wrong shoes on race day. This four-year-old gelding hasn’t been given another trial between that scratching and going to the races on Tuesday, which says to us that he is going very well at home, and he will be ready to win. This son of Counterattack won his trial on January 27 by just over a length, when he led for the entire 900m event and did so under little to no riding at all. Over 1100m on Tuesday, we should see this gelding take up the lead and look to up the ante in with 400m to put the rest of the field under pressure as they round the home turn. Zac Lloyd will have his first ride on this guy and with the current form that he is in, we should see a confident front running ride to secure this geldings maiden win.

Best Value at Wyong: Miss Scalini

The penultimate race of the day will see our value play of the day Miss Scalini from the Nathan Doyle yard go around as a double figure commodity second-up after she faded out of her first-up run at Newcastle over 1400m. This six-year-old mare has never finished in the placings fresh, so her first-up run was nothing more than a fitness run. This daughter of Magnus has a very impressive second-up record, with three wins and three placings from six starts, which should see her arrive at Wyong at peak fitness and all the better for that first run. Dylan Gibbons will be legged back aboard for his sixth ride on this girl and with his very good record of three wins and one placing from five rides, every facet of this race sets up very nicely for this mare. We are more than happy to play at the current $10 on offer with online betting sites and with her front running racing pattern, she will give us a very good run for our money.
