Wyong betting preview

What Wyong Races
Where Wyong Race Club – 71-73 Howarth St, Wyong NSW 2259
When Thursday, June 2, 2022
First Race 12:15pm AEST

Eight provincial races will be run and won at Wyong on Thursday, June 2, on what is expected to be a Heavy 10 surface. The rail is out 4m in the chute from the 1350m to the 1000m, before it moves into the 3m position for the remainder of the course. HorseBetting’s NSW analyst has picked out some top tips and quaddie numbers for the meeting, which is scheduled to start at 12:15pm AEST.

Best Bet at Wyong – Black Jacamar

Kim Waugh and Jay Ford combine in race six with a horse who is looking to make it three-straight successes. Black Jacamar, a four-year-old mare by Dream Ahead, has won both of her races this preparation, saluting at both Taree and Hawkesbury over 1000m on Heavy 9 tracks. The four-times winner has never won beyond 1000m, so 1100m could be a genuine query, but the tight Wyong track should suit as it is only a small straight and she won’t have to use up too much energy early on. She will either lead or be outside the leader from barrier nine and give this field a bit of a shake.

Best Bet

Race 6 – Silk #1 Black Jacamar (9)

4yo Mare | T: Kim Waugh | J: Jay Ford (59kg)

$3.30 with Ladbrokes

Next Best at Wyong – Nickelback

Team Hawkes combine with William Pike on Thursday with talented three-year-old gelding Nickelback. The son of Nicconi started a short-priced favourite on debut at Gosford but could only manage fourth, before going to Canterbury and running a good second to California Surreal at double-figure odds. The Hawkes camp put him away then and stepped him out at the trials in May, where he finished in the minor numbers in his two outings – one over 900m and the other over 740m. Pike can have Nickelback settling down midfield with cover before looking to pick them up around the bend, which can allow him to build momentum and get away with it in the straight.

Next Best

Race 3 – Silk #1 Nickelback (8)

3yo Gelding | T: Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes | J: William Pike (59kg)

$2.60 with Bet365

Best Value Bet at Wyong – Fielding

Fielding would no doubt be a little frustrating to own, having placed in all four starts without winning. On three of those occasions, he started at less than $4 with the bookmakers. Most recently, the three-year-old son of Deep Field was sent out at double-figure odds at Scone in what was a competitive 1000m maiden, where he boxed on gamely to run third behind Economics and Kayobi. Trained locally by Damien Lane, the gelding has finished second in his two starts at Wyong, so connections will be hoping he can go one better on Thursday.

Best Value

Race 2 – Silk #1 Fielding (12)

3yo Gelding | T: Damien Lane | J: Darryl McLellan (59.5kg)

$5.50 with Neds
