Damien Lane has made every post a winner aboard Wishlor Lass (-111.11) in the Group 3 Tesio Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley on Saturday afternoon.

The Symon Wilde-trained five-year-old is now a six-time winner in eight careers starts, building an impressive resume as she travels through the grades, with today’s victory making it three wins on the trot.

It was a relatively easy watch for favourite backers as the daughter of Mshawish pinged the lids under Damian Lane, ticking over some soft sectionals to lead throughout the 1600m contest.

Linda Meech was happy to slot in behind the speed aboard Soul Choice (+400) as the Sydney raider simply couldn’t match motors with the leader, fading out of the contest turning for home.

Only the pair of Thalassophile (+550) and Osmose (+500) made any inroads late, as Wishlor Lass had already secured a winning margin with 200m left to travel.

The next logical step for the two-time Group 3 winner would be the Group 2 Matriarch Stakes (2000m) on the final day of the Flemington carnival, stable representive Bill Wilde confirmed post-race while assessing the dominant performance of their mare.

“She’s an absolute beauty and we’ve got the mare so there is a few progeny coming along,” said Wilde.

“She’s just a perfect shape. She’s big, athletic and has got a lovely stayers (build). She’ll run in a couple of weeks time at Flemington (Matriarch Stakes).

“I don’t think leading on her is her best asset. She is better taking a sit and running home. She did that a bit at Caulfield but she was very good today.”

Damien Lane was impressed with his mount and suggested there was plenty of improvement still to come from Wishlor Lass.

“I think she was better again today,” said Lane.

“It just just feels like she’s come on from the run again.

“She’s a relatively lightly experienced horse so I feel like she’s still learning her craft. She just quickened a bit (more), she was more responsive when I asked her today.

“Great placement by the team to identify these two mares races for her and she was too good again.”
