Will Michelle Payne become a star of the small screen?

BY now we’re all aware of who Michelle Payne is after the leading female jockey won the 2015 Melbourne Cup aboard outsider Prince of Penzance.

Having not ridden for trainer Darren Weir since, there have been many speculations as to why serious Payne is taking her job and Sportsbet.com.au have thought up of some classic markets in her honour.

Payne has recently been seen traveling to ride at the Magic Millions on the Gold Coast, Wellington in New Zealand for the Wellington Cup and also at Ellerslie for the $1 million Karaka Million meeting. She appears to be enjoying the limelight her new found fame has given her and Sportsbet now thinks a TV appearance could be on the cards.

We don’t often see jockeys on reality TV shows – with Kiwi champion jockey Lance O’Sullivan’s appearance on Celebrity Treasure Island nothing to get excited about, but Payne has the celebrity appeal and could be making her way to the reality TV star ranks.

Michelle Payne betting – which reality TV show will she appear on?

If serious riding has taken a backwards step in Michelle Payne’s career, staring in a reality TV show surely has to be an option.

Sportsbet have listed seven different reality TV shows which Payne could star on. The raging hot favourite is Dancing With The Stars which would make for good viewing, but we think there’s a sneaky chance she might appear on a more applicable show at long odds.

Dancing With The Stars – $1.50
No Appearances – $2.20
The Bachelorette – $15
Celebrity Apprentice – $15
Farmer Wants A Wife – $26 at Sportsbet.com.au
Masterchef – $67
I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here – $67
The Block – $67

We’re not too sure whether or not Michelle Payne is on the market, but we’d like to see Payne star in a hybrid of Farmer Wants A Wife. Surely Jockey Wants A Husband is a viable option for TV executives and the $26 suggests this is a chance of happening.

Of course, The Bachelorette would fall under this category, but we like the thought of some country guys all chasing after a Melbourne Cup-winning jockey. That’d be worth watching.

How many winners will Michelle Payne ride this season?

As we’ve already stated, Michelle Payne isn’t exactly trying to set win records on the track this season. Her focus has somewhat shifted to off the track and this has ultimately affected her projected win totals.

Sportsbet are predicting Payne rides between 34-36 winners this season which isn’t anything to crow about. When the season ends on July 31, we think Payne will have knuckled down and ridden more winners than the Australian bookmakers are predicting.

34-36 winners – $2.90
37-39 winners – $3.00
33 or less winners – $3.80
40 or more winners – $4.40 with Sportsbet

Payne has ridden 23 winners already this season at a strike rate of only 10 percent, but we think she can get another 17 winners at least. She might want to make amends with trainer Darren Weir, however, as Weir has put her on a horse 79 times this season.

Will Michelle Payne ride another Group 1?

No – $1.15
Yes – $5.00

It’s not easy to win a Group 1 race and we’re siding with the bookmakers on this one. The odds might be short, but could be worth throwing into a long-term multi bet.
