Wildcard Wednesday roughie bets for February 7

WEDNESDAY racing is upon us once again, which means Wildcard Wednesdays is back.

We have four double figure runners we have hand-picked just for you heading into hump day. Let’s have a look at which outsiders we think can give a sight at odds.

Sandown Race 1 – Come On Carl

The market is sleeping on two-start Come On Carl based on its debut run, but the second career run at Sale on January 21 is enough to suggest to us a win could be just around the corner.

Despite not jumping smoothly from the gate, the three-year-old gelding managed to finish just two parts of a length behind Sir Kalahad, which looks to be an extremely promising runner.

That run gave confidence that Come On Carl won’t be in the maiden grade for long, and Wednesday looms as the day it breaks through.

Sandown Race 2 – Broo Boss

Broo Boss has only been three parts of a length away from a win in both runs this preparation, which is why we were surprised to see it running at such a large price going into this maiden event.

Coming into this event after a short let-up the Street Boss gelding will be right in the mix early and in a large field that will be vitally important.

This maiden is going to a tough one to take out, which is why we think the price around Broo Boss is so generous but we think it is extremely well placed to break through at the fourth time of asking.

Randwick Race 5 – Canberra

Canberra was awful first-up but given the four-year-old has never placed while resuming in its career it was no surprise to see it fail to deliver.

There’s a few factors for us leding into this one. A second-up win in the past suggests to us it will improve dramatically, as well as the fact that the Waller runner has yet to miss the placings across two runs at the distance.

The horse has also won at a higher grading than this last preparation.

In a race where a number of runners will look to go forward and contest the lead, Canberra can drift right back and finish over the top of them when it matters most.

Randwick Race 7 – Chapelco

Chapelco resumes after a four month lay off and is a huge chance of returning.

The horse has won first-up before and also has a win at this distance in the past, but the huge tick for us is the trial form leading into Wednesday’s resuming run. After two poor trials the horse won its third and final hitout at Hawkesbury in strong fashion.

The inside draw will also be a big factor given how speedy the horse begins. Chapelco should be able to spear to the front from gate one and give them something to catch.
