Weights rise for Victorian race meetings

Victorian jockeys will receive some weight relief in a bid to stay healthy during the the coronavirus outbreak.

Racing Victoria, after consultation with the Victorian Jockeys’ Association, announced on Wednesday that the minimum weight for all metropolitan and country races will be 56kg.

The new minimum weight, a rise of 2kg for day meetings, will come into effect from next Tuesday’s meeting at Geelong and remain until otherwise advised.

To maintain the spread of weights across handicap races, the minimum topweight will rise to 62kg while in two-year-old races it will be to 61kg.

At night meetings the minimum weight will also rise to 56kg, a 1kg lift but the minimum topweight will also increase to 62kg, 61kg for two-year-old races.
