Ipswich racing preview

What Ipswich Races
Where Ipswich Turf Club – 219 Brisbane Rd, Bundamba QLD 4304
When Wednesday, October 19, 2022
First Race 12:43pm AEST

The Ipswich Turf Club will host the mid-week Queensland metropolitan race meeting, with a competitive eight-race program kicking off at 12:43 AEST. The track is currently rated a Soft 5, but with good weather between Monday and Wednesday, we could be on a Good drying track come raceday. The rail will be in the 4m position between the 1600m mark and the 1100m mark and then at the 6m position for the remainder of the circuit.

Best Bet: Tick Tock Queen

After breaking her maiden in her first start for Tony Gollan, Tick Tock Queen will be looking to improve her already impressive record to two wins from her first five starts. This lightly raced four-year-old mare has only been to the races just the four times, with her first three runs all taking place in Victoria for trainer Wendy Kelly. At the Sunshine Coast last start over 1200m on September 28, this daughter of Bel Esprit was too good for her rivals, running over the top of them late under the urgings of Ben Thompson, in what looked to be an easy kill to get her confidence up for this step up in grade. Ben Thompson will stick with this mare and even though she is stepping up from maiden class to a Benchmark 65, she will be very hard to beat once again, and she looks by far the best bet on the card at Ipswich.

Best Bet

Race 8 – silks#14 Tick Tock Queen (5)

Next Best Bet: Singer Sargent

In race three, the 3YO Maiden Handicap over 1690m, Kacy Fogden has chosen to bring her three-year-old gelding – Singer Sargent – to town after two very good trials and an impressive debut performance at the Gold Coast on October 1 over 1350m. This son of Spieth had been scratched from a few races before making his debut and it nearly worked as he ran on from the back of the field indicating that the 1350m may have been too short for him to be at his very best. Jag Guthman-Chester has chosen to stay with this gelding and as he steps up to the 1690m, we expect Guthman-Chester to get the very best out of this guy and have him charging home from the back of the field to break his maiden and go on to bigger and better things.

Next Best

Race 3 – silks#1 Singer Sargent (1)

3yo Gelding | T: Kacy Fogden | J: Jag Guthman-Chester (59kg)

Best Value Bet: Abdicating

In the Class 4 Handicap over 1100m, we think the Ben Hull-trained Abdicating will be good value to record his fifth victory at start number 19. This son of Crackerjack King has been very good at Ipswich throughout his career, recording two wins from his two runs at the track. Coming off of his best run this preparation, he now returns to a track that he clearly likes fourth-up and should be at peak fitness for this start. Tegan Harrison knows this gelding very well, as she has ridden him at his last three starts, so jumping from barrier two we expect to see this guy up the front leading before kicking away on the bend to keep his unbeaten record at Ipswich intact.

Best Value

Race 4 – silks#4 Abdicating (2)

6yo Gelding | T: Ben Hull | J: Tegan Harrison (58kg)

$14 with Bet365
