HorseBetting’s New South Wales racing analyst presents his best bets and quaddie selections for Wednesday’s seven-race metropolitan meeting at Canterbury Park. The track is once again rated a Heavy 9, while the rail is in the true position for the entire course. Racing will begin at 12:45pm AEST with the running of a 2YO Colts & Geldings Maiden Plate over 1200m, where a promising colt looks very hard to beat.
Canterbury Best Bet – Sea Treasures
We saw the Australian Derby form franked on Saturday with Character winning the Queensland Guineas, and we think it can be franked again at Canterbury on Wednesday when Bjorn Baker’s Sea Treasures steps out for the first time since his fifth-place effort behind Hitotsu. The son of So You Think has now had a month between runs and goes from the 2400m Group 1 back to a 1900m Benchmark 64 where he has to carry the equal top weight of 60.5kg. It was a huge run that he produced in the Derby, getting back to near last for much of the mile and a half before flying home to run fifth, albeit 10 lengths behind the winner. Bjorn Baker will leg aboard Keagan Latham on Wednesday, which looks a winning combination in this race.
Best Bet
Race 5 –
3yo Gelding | T: Bjorn Baker | J: Keagan Latham (60.5kg)
Canterbury Next Best – Shalailed
Two-year-old Shalaa colt Shalailed looks to have the race fitness over some of his rivals on Wednesday, when he steps out for the second time this campaign. The John O’Shea-trained galloper is still a maiden after three starts, but he is yet to miss a place; he finished third in his first two starts in his first preparation, before resuming with a narrow second to Master Showman at Hawkesbury on April 13. On debut, this galloper actually beat home Fireburn, and we now know how good that form is. On Wednesday, the colt will jump from barrier four under Brenton Avdulla, who will look to put him up on the pace or thereabouts and give him every chance to get his maiden win out of the way.

Race 1 –
2yo Colt | T: John O’Shea | J: Brenton Avdulla (56kg)
Canterbury Value Bet – Escaped
In the final event on the program, Escaped is going to give his rivals something to chase over the 1250m. The Jason Deamer-trained five-year-old has a brilliant first-up record, winning two of his five fresh runs, while he is also one win from one start at this track. The son of Exceed And Excel will go forward under Tim Clark from barrier two, and although he has to carry 61kg and give weight to the promising Democracy Manifest, we are hoping that the margin is too great to reel in down the straight. This horse is the definition of a one-trick pony, so we will know our fate pretty early on.

Race 7 –
5yo Gelding | T: Jason Deamer | J: Tim Clark (61kg)
