Warwick Stakes at Randwick betting tips, form and odds, August 19

Randwick racing tips

WINX returns to kick off its spring campaign in the Warwick Stakes at Randwick and we have free tips, odds and form.

The two-time Cox Plate champion has scared off the opposition in the 1400m feature, but there’s still some great betting action elsewhere on the quality card this Saturday.

The Up and Coming Stakes has attracted a quality field of three-year-old’s and it promises to be one of the most competitive races on the nine-race programme.

We’re also looking forward to the Show County Quality where the likes of Spectroscope, Deploy, Omei Sword and Sires’ Produce winner Invader are all in action.

Punters with Ladbrokes.com.au can get $2 for Winx to run first or second in the Warwick Stakes. The max bet is only $20, but that’s a gift $20 in our opinion.

Race 1 – 2GB Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m)

The unbeaten Champagne Cuddles returns having won by 2.3 lengths in June and it looks a serious winning hope. Trainer Bjorn Baker has been on a good run of late and this three-year-old filly could be the underrated runner coming into this race. Respect considering the good each way price available.

The form of Alizee looks excellent for this and the penny might have finally dropped. The James Cummings-trained filly was no match for the likes of Tulip and Property last campaign, but it scored easily over Songlike last start and it has subsequently won well at midweek level. The $2.45 will likely drift with late money coming for Champagne Cuddles.

Race 1 tip: Alizee to win ($2.45) at CrownBet.com.au

Race 2 – Randwick Mayor’s Cup Handicap (2400m)

Sayed is the overwhelming favourite at $1.60 having won its last two starts. The Chris Waller-trained five-year-old scored by over five lengths against a similar field last start and it will get the perfect trip in transit from barrier one. It can handle all tracks conditions and the odds look spot on.

More Moet has also won its last two starts, but it rises right up in grade for this and it might be a little exposed. The Snowden-trained four-year-old has enjoyed stepping up over the staying distances and it carries 8kg less than the favourite, but it would need to find a couple of lengths.

Race 2 tip: Sayed to win ($1.60) at Ladbrokes.com.au

Race 3 – Harvey Norman Highway Handicap (1600m)

My Tagoson has won only one of its 10 starts, but it has placed five times and is knocking on the door. The Rodney Northam-trained five-year-old finished strongly behind Prada Miss last start at Rosehill and Randwick should suit it perfectly. It has been specked in the betting from $5 to $4.80.

Arrestar has been attracting support following its win at Doomben last start. The Matthew Dunn-trained three-year-old has been competing well at all levels this campaign and it’s going to get every chance off the inside draw with a weight of 55kg. That makes the current $3.40 favourite tough to beat.

Race 3 tip: Arrestar to win ($3.40) at CrownBet.com.au

Race 4 – Broccolini Handicap (1400m)

A win isn’t too far away for Francesco and it’s well weighted for this. The Mark Newnham-trained six-year-old ran on strongly behind King Darci last start at Randwick and despite rising in grade, it will enjoy having only 53kg on its back. It opened at $10 and has been firmly backed into $8.

Comin’ Through is the class of the field having won the Carbine Club Stakes last preparation. The son of Fastnet Rock performed well behind some nice types in the autumn, but it didn’t handle the heavy tracks in the Randwick and Rosehill Guineas. It’s not easy here fresh up with a big weight, but monitor betting moves.

Race 4 tip: Francesco to place ($2.70) at Topbetta.com.au

Race 5 – Alpha Flight Services Up and Coming Stakes (1300m)

Calculated has attracted attention in the betting with $3.80 following its placing behind Siege of Quebec. The So You Think colt was a strong winner prior to that, but this is another level of racing and it won’t be easy. Dropping to 53.5kg has made it an attractive betting prospect, but be weary of the other class runners.

Trapeze Artist is the class horse in the field having beaten the likes of Trekking by three lengths in the Black Opal. The Gerald Ryan-trained colt ran third behind Invader in the Sires’ Produce and it won its only other fresh up start by two lengths. Carrying 61kg is rough, but we’re expecting a big effort.

Race 5 tip: Trapeze Artist to place ($1.95) at Ladbrokes.com.au

Race 6 – Bob Ingham Warwick Stakes (1400m)

[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1137768_06]

Winx is currently paying $1.08 to win after opening at $1.07, but the $2 at Ladbrokes is worth taking. The Australian champion thoroughbred is kicking off another campaign and this is one of the easiest fields it will ever have to handle. Wins in a canter.

Inference is a handy place chance at $1.95. The Hawkes-trained four-year-old won the Randwick Guineas last campaign and it has won two of its three starts at this distance. The fact that it has to give Winx weight is tough, but it could be the best of the rest.

Race 6 tip: Winx to win ($2) at Ladbrokes.com.au

Race 7 – Sydney Markets Toy Show Quality (1300m)

Dixie Blossoms has never finished out of the money in three fresh starts and punters have backed it in. The Ron Quinton-trained mare has also never finished out of the money at Randwick in five starts and punters have taken the $3.70 on offer. Having Hugh Bowman in the saddle is a positive and it should run well again.

Euro Angel isn’t the easiest horse to follow, but it runs best fresh up. The Hawkes-trained mare has had four fresh starts for two wins and two placings. It looked good last campaign running a close seventh in the Queen of the Turf and it has enough barrier speed to show this field a clean pair of heels. Consider at a nice price of $4.60.

Race 7 tip: Euro Angel to win ($4.60) at CrownBet.com.au

Race 8 – Suttons Show County Quality (1200m)

There’s always a big expectation on Omei Sword and that’s the case here. The Waller-trained four-year-old is coming back after a bleeding attack in the Coolmore at Rosehill and it has class when it’s right. The Silver Shadow Stakes winner, on this day last year, has been unlucky since in the Golden Rose and Surround Stakes. It has been expensive for punters, but they’ve loaded up again at $2.30.

Invader might be better suited over the mile, but it has won and placed at the sprinting distance. The Snowden-trained colt finished fifth behind Houtzen in the Magic Millions over this distance before winning the Sires’ Produce in April. It’s classy at best and carrying 53.5kg is ideal.

Race 8 tip: Omei Sword to win ($2.30) at Topbetta.com.au

Race 9 – Primo Handicap (1000m)

[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1137768_09]

Clipper is the fit runner having had four starts this preparation for two wins and two placings. The Matthew Dale-trained mare fought on well behind Memes last start and its Highway Handicap wins were full of class. It faces some tough customers in this and its $3.90 price looks about right.

Gibraltar Girl is on the second line of betting at $4.60 and it has shown good speed in the past. The Snowden-trained four-year-old scored on this track in April on a heavy track, but it prefers the dry and conditions should suit. It does get back in the run which makes it hard over this distance.

Race 9 tip: Clipper to win ($3.90) at Sportsbet.com.au
