Warwick Farm betting tips, form guide and updated odds, July 8

Warwick Farm tips

SATURDAY premier racing returns to Warwick Farm on July 8 and we have form, odds and betting tips for all nine races.

The card features some quality racing including the Schweppes Handicap, but eyes will be on the opening race of the day where the two-year-olds do battle.

The Tab Rewards Handicap has attracted one of the best fields around Australia on Saturday bookmakers are expecting to take action on a number of high profile thoroughbreds.

Race 1 – Tab Rewards Handicap (1200m)

Punters should keep an eye on Sparky Lad for Chris Waller. The two-year-old gelding gets the services of Hugh Bowman after winning a trial at Rosehill and there seems to be plenty of confidence in the camp. The son of Smart Missile is bred to run quick times as a juvenile and it could pay to follow any positive betting moves with this runner.

Stablemate Luiza is fresh up having finished fourth in the Inglis 2YO at Moonee Valley October. The daughter of I Am Invincible was an easy debut winner at Randwick when beating Showtime in the Kirkham Stakes and although that form hasn’t stacked up impressively, it does look to possess natural talent. The inside draw should suit perfectly.

Race 1 tip: Luiza to win at Sportsbets.com.au

Race 2 – Australian Turf Club Handicap (1400m)

Philosophy hasn’t done much wrong in five starts to date, winning three and placing in one. The Darren Beadman-trained four-year-old was a narrow winner at Canterbury coming into this and it will enjoy a track that’s not heavy. This looks to be its level of racing and it should get all favours from barrier two with Corey Brown in the saddle.

Yuma Desert showed what it can do when it’s on its game last start at Randwick. The wet track specialist scored by two lengths over Test The World which had won four consecutive races. The Snowden-trained mare relished the heavy track conditions and it looks a good chance of notching its first Warwick Farm win from its fourth attempt.

Race 2 tip: Yuma Desert to win at Bet365.com

Race 3 – Pro Rata ATC Membership Handicap (2400m)

Collateral is in stellar form having won its last four starts, but the rise in weight will make it harder. The Bjorn Baker-trained five-year-old has seen a drastic turn in form this campaign and it has beaten some handy thoroughbreds along the way. It’s unbeaten on heavy tracks which could be its calling card, but rising up in weight could offset its brilliance. Respect it here and the market will indicate its chances.

Epsom Hill produced a handy run for second behind Collateral last start and it could reserve the finishing order. The Lindsay Park-trained gelding is better suited on the weights here which will help and the imports typically need a few runs to show their best at this level. Should be paying solid each way odds.

Race 3 tip: Epsom Hill to place at CrownBet.com.au

Race 4 – Theraces Handicap (1400m)

Ghostly couldn’t run down Memes last start, but it faces an easier field here. The Beadman-trained three-year-old didn’t get the best of luck in running after travelling wide throughout, but it still ran home solidly and that’s a positive sign for this. It won its only start on this track and a solid bounce back effort is expected on Saturday.

Cosmic Engine has put two wins together and it looked better than average when winning by over two lengths here last start. The Waller-trained gelding defeated the talented Suncraze when fresh up at Newcastle and that’s good form for this. It handles all track conditions, but just needs to handle the big weight.

Race 4 tip: Ghostly to win at Ladbrokes.com.au

Race 5 – Tab Highway Handicap (1200m)

On The Fiddle played a sweet tune on debut when winning at Wagga Wagga and it wasn’t far behind them last time out. The Matthew Dale-trained gelding finished under a length behind Marco Man and it drops significantly in weight down to 53.5kg in this. Brenton Avdulla rides which is a positive and it should be well-received in the betting.

Suncraze is an extremely talented runner which hasn’t had the best of luck to date. It was ridden upside down last time out and punters can expect to see Corey Brown take it back from the inside draw and work home nicely. It loves having something to chase and although it’s facing a tough field here, it has form around the likes of Clipper and Cosmic Engine. Should be close to odds on.

Race 5 tip: Suncraze to win at CrownBet.com.au

Race 6 – McGrath Estate Agents Handicap (1100m)

Local runner Second Step has a fair amount of ability after winning its last two. The John Steinmetz-trained filly scored by 3.5 lengths at Bathurst last start and although it rises in grade, it hasn’t done much wrong to suggest it can’t run a quick enough time. It’s giving away experience, but it gets in with a good weight and it should run accordingly.

Spending To Win’s chances haven’t been improved by the barrier draw of 15, but its class should be considered. The Snowden-trained colt has won only one from seven starts, but it has been running in some tough stakes-graded races and it usually fires fresh up. Its placing behind Tactical Advantage in the Wilkes Stakes was superior form for this so watch with interest.

Race 6 tip: Second Step to place at CrownBet.com.au

Race 7 – Tab Handicap (1600m)

It’s about time Old North showed its best form and it doesn’t get a better chance than this. The well-bred son of Lonhro showed plenty of early staying promise, but it hasn’t shown much in four starts this campaign and dropping to this grade could be the last resort. It won its only start on this track which is a positive.

Liapari scored a good win along the inside of runners two back and it made good late ground at Randwick last start. The former Kiwi runner is now a three-time winner at the mile and it has shown the ability to handle both good and wet tracks. Conditions should suit either way on Saturday so consider.

Race 7 tip: Old North to win at Bet365.com

Race 8 – Schweppes Handicap (1100m)

Secret Trail didn’t fire on the heavy track last start, but it looked good winning prior to that at Canterbury. The Snowden-trained four-year-old is a three-time winner at this distance and often turns in inconsistent performances. It could rebound with a good effort here and the claim will help its chances.

Your Way resumes after winning four of its last five starts. The Baker-trained four-year-old beat some nice types last preparation and it drops in grade slightly after winning back-to-back races at rating 85 grade. This isn’t an easy task first up, but it should be well-backed with bookmakers.

Race 8 tip: Secret Trail to win at Sportsbet.com.au

Race 9 – Tab Handicap (1300m)

Nonpareil isn’t exactly a punters best friend, but it has the ability to win in this grade. The three-year-old is an experienced type having its 14th start and it has run well in the past at Warwick Farm. It’s known for being well-backed and disappointing, but allow it another chance in an even race.

Brazen is fresh up for Joe Pride and it usually shows form in this state. The staying type last raced in the Queensland Derby where it finished fifth behind Eagle Way and that Hong Kong form has since stood up. There’s plenty to like about its future and it has won at this distance, so don’t discount it over this distance.

Race 9 tip: Nonpareil to win at WilliamHill.com.au
