Warrnambool racing preview
Eight races are set down for decision on Thursday afternoon at Warrnambool, where there looks to be plenty of strong competition throughout the card. With the rail out 7m for the entire circuit and the track already coming up a Good 3, we’re set fair for midweek racing at the ‘Bool from 1:30pm AEDT onwards.
Feuermond is yet to put a foot wrong in his first two career runs, and we’re happy to make him our best play of the day at the ‘Bool on Thursday. Having yet to run out of the quinella, he is clearly an above-average galloper and will be looking to build on his impressive record to date. In his maiden victory at Terang last week, the four-year-old gelding responded when asked for an effort at the top of the straight and quickly put a gap on his rivals to score by over three lengths. With pace drawn to his outside, he maps to get a perfect cart across the field. He rates highly with Ethan Brown retaining the ride and looks hard to go past in the penultimate race on the card.

In a race with little form to go on, we’re happy to side with a three-year-old filly who has strung together consecutive runner-up performances. The Peter Hardacre prospect’s last-start effort at Geelong saw her tire late to go down by just over a length and half, while on debut she struggled out of the barriers and seemingly threw away a certain win when going down by a nostril. From barrier 13, she should have no issue in getting up on speed (with decent barrier manners) and finding a spot just outside the leader. With a bit of luck, her race fitness should be enough to get the job done.

For this bet, we’re usually looking for a galloper in double figures that we think is well over the price. When the fields came out for Warrnambool this week, we initially had Vitosha marked a lot shorter than what she is. She’s back from a three-month spell, and if her last run is anything to go by, she’s in this right up to her neck. She maps to get the run of the race from barrier one, and if she gets just the tiniest bit of luck in the home straight, she will take a power of beating as she looks to break her maiden.
