Warrnambool racing full form & tips, Sunday January 7

IT’S Koroit Cup day at the ‘Bool this Sunday, which is one of the great race days at the Victorian track.

We’re getting in nice and early to provide tips for this one, and we’re loving the look of a number of Darren Weir runners.

We’re keeping an eye on an English import in race five, but there are plenty of other great runners taking to the track this Sunday.

The famed pairing of Weir and Yendall combine in the opener and first starter Golden Lance looks well placed to make a winning debut. The horse has not trialed leading into this one but DK doesn’t send them out there if they aren’t a winning hope.

Race 1 tip: Golden Lance to win at Sportsbet

Race 2 – Maiden Plate (1400m)

Duaneo’s Sister placed at benchmark 58 level last time out and now drops back to maiden grade. It bodes well for a good run and we think it will be the horse to beat here.

Race 2 tip: Duaneo’s Sister to win at Neds

Race 3 – Maiden Plate (2009m)

War Piglet is at the bottom of the weights here and it will benefit greatly from that fact. Jumping from barrier four is another big bonus and the Christmas Eve placing at Werribee is another tick.

Lake Loni placed second on debut at a huge price and we liked what we saw. The horse gets a great draw and should get to the leading division without much trouble. Sunday looms likely.

Race 4 tip: Lake Loni to win at Sportsbet

Race 5 – Benchmark 64 (1200m)

Weir and Yendall team up again to take the resuming Kings Will Dream into this one. This is the horse’s first run in Australia since winning at Pontefract in the UK in July. Weir has had a great recent record with UK imports and we’re not ones to doubt the champion trainer.

Race 5 tip: Kings Will Dream to win at William Hill

Race 6 – Koroit Cup (1700m)

Our Bottino hasn’t been racing in terrific form but it drops back in class here. We have a big opinion of this six-year-old and think it can bounce back and take out the feature event of the day at a track and distance where it has won at in the past.

Race 6 tip: Our Bottino to win at Crownbet

Race 7 – Benchmark 58 (1400m)

Cape Sounion is second-up on Sunday where it has won in the past. The horse went down by less than a length upon resumption as a short-priced favourite on December 17, but we think it will improve on that run. Cape Sounion gets the outside alley but we think it can get across easily and win from the front.

Race 7 tip: Cape Sounion to win at Crownbet

Race 8 – Benchmark 64 (2009m)

Jim’s Special is expected to lead in this one and we think it’ll be hard to mow down. The top weight is the speedest beginner in the field and will be lumbering to the front from barrier eight. From there there we believe it will be extremely hard to get past.

Race 8 tip: Jim’s Special to win at William Hill
