What Warrnambool May Carnival Day 2
Where Warrnambool Racing Club – 2/64 Grafton Rd, Warrnambool VIC 3280
When Wednesday, April 30, 2025
First Race 11:20am AEST

The Listed Wangoom Handicap will headline the massive 10-race card at Warrnambool on Wednesday — the second day of the May Racing Carnival. The track is expected to firm into the Good range and stay in that rating throughout the day. The rail will remain in its true position for the entire circuit, with the first race scheduled to jump at 11:20am AEST.

Wangoom Handicap Tip: Romantic Choice

Romantic Choice failed to impress in The Discovery at Echuca first-up, when the Tom Dabernig-trained mare settled behind the speed and boxed on steadily for sixth place. The daughter of Toronado will take good fitness benefit from her fresh run, and she has a strong second-up record (3:2-0-1). If Declan Bates can hold the rail from barrier one and find the front, Romantic Choice will prove hard to run down at a great each-way price with horse racing bookmakers.

Best Bet at Warrnambool: Persian Spirit

After finishing as the runner-up for the second straight start, Persian Spirit will seek to claim his first win of the campaign at his home track. The Symon Wilde-trained galloper was run over by Luna Cat at Terang over 1200m, but he defeated the rest of the field easily. Harry Coffey will be legged aboard for his first ride on this son of Cable Bay, and if he can settle him closer to the speed from barrier five, Persian Spirit will break through for a deserved victory.

Next Best at Warrnambool: Rhooky

The Symon Wilde-trained debutant Rhooky has been heavily backed following his dominant jumpout victory at Ararat. The son of Raise The Flag showed great barrier manners and jumped to the front of the field before pulling away gradually throughout the 1300m journey to win by over 15 lengths. From barrier 12, Linda Meech will push forward to find the lead, and if Rhooky can show that high cruising speed throughout, he will kick off his career with a win.
